Isotope geochemistry and petrogenesis of peralkaline Middle Miocene ignimbrites from central Sonora: relationship with continental break-up and the birth of the Gulf of California [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Middle Miocene peralkaline ignimbrites constitute a specific geodynamic marker of the early stage of opening of the Gulf of California, preserved either in central Sonora or the Puertecitos area, in Baja California.

Evolution of the vaquita/totoaba socio‐ecological system in the Upper Gulf of California, Mexico

open access: yesEcosphere, Volume 16, Issue 2, February 2025.
Abstract The Upper Gulf of California (UGC) hosts a rich marine biodiversity. Complex climatic processes generate high biological productivity enabling the use of resources in a complex socio‐ecological processes (SEPs). Through a literature review, evolution and aggravation of the SEP over 50 years are analyzed.

Explosive Ocean Island Volcanism Explained by High Magmatic Water Content Determined Through Nominally Anhydrous Minerals

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, Volume 26, Issue 2, February 2025.
Abstract Ocean island basalt (OIB) magmas are generally water poor and usually contain less than 1 wt.% of H2O. Explosive eruption styles are therefore rare. When explosive eruptions occur, they are thought to be driven by either volatile‐enriched mantle sources or by gas segregation processes during magma differentiation.

Tidal computation in the Gulf of California I.

Report of the Inter-American Tropical Tuna Commission for the year 1955 [PDF]

open access: yes, 1956
ENGLISH: This is the fifth year of investigations, by the Inter-American Tropical Tuna Commission, of the fisheries for tunas and tuna-bait fishes in the Eastern Pacific Ocean adjacent to the shores of the Americas.

Movement Ecology of a Coastal Foundation Seagrass Species: Insights From Genetic Data and Oceanographic Modelling

open access: yesDiversity and Distributions, Volume 31, Issue 2, February 2025.
ABSTRACT Aim Seed dispersal plays a key role in shaping the distribution and genetic complexity of seagrass populations and affects their resilience capacity under disturbance. The endemic seagrass Posidonia oceanica is a key component of Mediterranean coastal ecosystems, but knowledge about movement ecology in this species is limited, especially ...

A study of the Eastern Pacific fishery for tuna baitfishes, with particular reference to the anchoveta (Cetengraulis mysticetus) [PDF]

open access: yes, 1957
ENGLISH: Most of the catches of yellowfin and skipjack tuna from the Eastern Pacific Ocean are made by vessels fishing with poles and lines and live bait.

Sea surface temperature and the distribution and apparent abundance of skipjack (Katsuwonus pelamis) in the Eastern Pacific Ocean, 1951-1968 [PDF]

open access: yes, 1970
ENGLISH: Isograms of sea surface temperature (OC) have been produced for 1949-1968 for the areas of the eastern Pacific Ocean in which the majority of the skipjack catch is taken. These are in the immediate coastal zone, California (35° N) to Chile (20 0
