Summary Temperature influences the distribution and performance of both plants and insect herbivores. Consequently, plant–herbivore interactions are likely to vary across thermal gradients, which could affect the evolution of plant defense. Furthermore, temperature fluctuations may elicit immediate changes in defense.

Abstract BACKGROUND The functionality of food can be improved by supplementing it with bioactive substances. However, the interactions between these substances and food components can compromise their functional efficacy. This study investigated the potential to reduce functional losses by encapsulating citrus essential oil (CEO) in zein particles (ZPs)

Valuation and hedging of the ruin-contingent life annuity (RCLA) [PDF]
This paper analyzes a novel type of mortality contingent-claim called a ruin-contingent life annuity (RCLA). This product fuses together a path-dependent equity put option with a "personal longevity" call option. The annuitant's (i.e.

Abstract Substrate inhibition in lactic acid bacteria (LAB) fermentation occurs when substrate concentration exceeds a critical value, leading to reduced cell growth and thus inefficient lactic acid production. Many efforts, including experimental and kinetic models, have been devoted to elucidate the possible mechanisms of substrate inhibition ...

Alfalfa‐based silage pellets (ABSP) showed significant results regarding production performance, yolk colour and ω‐3 (PUFAs), as well as the ratio ω‐6/ω‐3 (p < 0.05). The ABSP group also exhibited a higher abundance of beneficial bacteria and a lower abundance of pathogenic bacteria compared to the control group (p < 0.05).

Abstract Remaining useful life (RUL) analysis of equipment prevents failures and assists in maintenance to address impending failures. To achieve this, the advancement of degradation can be measured through a determinant variable. This work presents a new methodology for estimating the number of remaining cycles (NRC), or RUL, of equipment in cyclic ...

Gamma-Gompertz life expectancy at birth
BACKGROUND The gamma-Gompertz multiplicative frailty model is the most common parametric modelapplied to human mortality data at adult and old ages. The resulting life expectancy hasbeen calculated so far only numerically.

Gompertz Function Approach: Numerical Integration for Microbial Growth Problem
In this work, we developed a numerical integrator using the Gompertz function model approach with the basic parameters as highlighted by Gompertz in finding and measure the growth in human cells as a basis function involving exponential, logarithmic, and polynomial, hence implemented the numerical integrator to solve problems arising in microbial ...
