The Trans-Gompertz Function: An Alternative to the Logistic Growth Function with Faster Growth

Acta Biotheoretica, 2015
The growth characteristics of the recently derived Trans-Gompertz function are compared to those of the Generalized Logistic function. Both functions are defined by one shaping parameter and one rate parameter. The functions are matched at a specified point on the growth curve by equating both the first and second derivatives.

Use of the Gompertz Function for Predicting Corn Leaf Area

Transactions of the ASAE, 1975
ABSTRACT ATECHNIQUE was developed to relate the coefficients A, B, and k of the Gompertz function (typical growth function) to environmental factors. Environmental factors consid-ered were maximum and minimum temperatures, rainfall, percent sun-shine, and wind speed.

The Gompertz Function Can Coherently Describe Microbial Mineralization of Growth-Sustaining Pesticides

Environmental Science & Technology, 2013
Mineralization of (14)C-labeled tracers is a common way of studying the environmental fate of xenobiotics, but it can be difficult to extract relevant kinetic parameters from such experiments since complex kinetic functions or several kinetic functions may be needed to adequately describe large data sets. In this study, we suggest using a two-parameter,

A method of fitting non-symmetric Gompertz functions for characterising malignant growth

International Journal of Bio-Medical Computing, 1977
A basic symmetrically asymptotic Gompertz equation was extended to account for more complex growth and life-table data. This extended Gompertz or non-symmetric asymptotic regression equation was found to be suitable for fitting a large variety of data exhibiting growth and experimentally-induced regression effects expressed in the same curve.

Estimation of genetic (co)variances of Gompertz growth function parameters in pigs

Journal of Animal Breeding and Genetics, 2016
SummaryThe objective of this study was to estimate genetic (co)variances for the Gompertz growth function parameters, asymptotic mature weight (A), the ratio of mature weight to birthweight (B) and rate of maturation (k), using alternative modelling approaches. The data set consisted of 51 893 live weight records from 10 201 growing pigs. The growth of

Dynamical Analysis and Big Bang Bifurcations of 1D and 2D Gompertz's Growth Functions

International Journal of Bifurcation and Chaos, 2016
In this paper, we study the dynamics and bifurcation properties of a three-parameter family of 1D Gompertz's growth functions, which are defined by the population size functions of the Gompertz logistic growth equation. The dynamical behavior is complex leading to a diversified bifurcation structure, leading to the big bang bifurcations of the so ...

The analysis of survival (mortality) data: Fitting Gompertz, Weibull, and logistic functions

Mechanisms of Ageing and Development, 1994
Survival functions are fitted to survival data from several large populations. The Gompertz survival function corresponds to exponential mortality rate increases with time. The Weibull survival function corresponds to mortality rates that increase as a power function of time. A two-parameter, logistic survival function is introduced, and corresponds to
