Digital Divide: An Econometric Study of the Determinants in Information-poor Countries [PDF]
There can not be two opinions on the importance of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for economic development. However, real disparities exist in access to and use of ICT across countries.

Magnetar powered GRBs: Explaining the extended emission and X-ray plateau of short GRB light curves
Extended emission (EE) is a high-energy, early time rebrightening sometimes seen in the light curves of short gamma-ray bursts (GRBs). We present the first contiguous fits to the EE tail and the later X-ray plateau, unified within a single model.

Modelling of Scenedesmus obliquus; function of nutrients with modified Gompertz model
This study attempted to investigate variation in biovolume of Scenedesmus obliquus, in the modified Johnson medium at 20+/-2 degrees C, under 16kergcm(-2)s(-1) continuous illumination. The experiments were carried out at four nitrate (8, 12, 16, and 20mM) and four phosphate (0.1, 0.3, 0.5 and 0.7mM) concentrations at pH 7 and 8.

Summary Temperature influences the distribution and performance of both plants and insect herbivores. Consequently, plant–herbivore interactions are likely to vary across thermal gradients, which could affect the evolution of plant defense. Furthermore, temperature fluctuations may elicit immediate changes in defense.

Abstract Substrate inhibition in lactic acid bacteria (LAB) fermentation occurs when substrate concentration exceeds a critical value, leading to reduced cell growth and thus inefficient lactic acid production. Many efforts, including experimental and kinetic models, have been devoted to elucidate the possible mechanisms of substrate inhibition ...

Application of different growth models to “Nero di Parma” pigs
The growth curves of 280 “Nero di Parma” pigs from birth to maturity were calculated by applying nine different models (regressions from 1st to 4th degree and nonlinear regressions following the Brody, Logistic, Janoschek, Bertalannfy and ...

A Bayesian approach to Cox-Gompertz model
Survival analysis has a wide application area from medicine to marketing and Cox model takes an important part in survival analysis. When the distribution of survival data is known or it is appropriate to assume a survival distribution, use of a parametric form of Cox model is employed.

Abstract Remaining useful life (RUL) analysis of equipment prevents failures and assists in maintenance to address impending failures. To achieve this, the advancement of degradation can be measured through a determinant variable. This work presents a new methodology for estimating the number of remaining cycles (NRC), or RUL, of equipment in cyclic ...
