Climate‐induced upslope shift of orthopteran herbivores imposes greater herbivory through trait complementarity

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, Volume 39, Issue 7, Page 1774-1785, July 2025.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract The asynchronous upward shift of insect herbivores and plants towards higher elevations following climate warming is anticipated to generate novel plant–insect interactions.

Micro‐ and macroclimate interactively shape diversity, niches and traits of Orthoptera communities along elevational gradients

open access: yesDiversity and Distributions, Volume 30, Issue 5, May 2024.
Abstract Aim Temperature is one of the main drivers shaping species diversity and assembly processes. Yet, site‐specific effects of the local microclimate on species and trait compositions of insect communities have rarely been assessed along macroclimatic temperature clines. Location Bavarian Alps, Germany.

Meiotic Pairing and Chiasma Localization inScyllina Signatipennis(Gomphocerinae, Acrididae) [PDF]

open access: yesCaryologia, 1984
SUMMARYScyllina signatipennis is a Gomphocerine grasshopper whose male karyotype of 23 telocentric chromosomes includes 11 autosomal pairs (3 long: L1-L3; 5 medium-sized: M4-M8; short: 3 S9-S11) and an X-chromosome. Males show an extreme pattern of proximal chiasma localization during meiosis which is characterized by a preleptotenic contraction stage ...

Synergistically Better than One: Co-Application of Grasshopper-Derived +ssRNA Virus and Imidacloprid Induces Acute Toxicity in Locusta migratoria

open access: yesAgriculture
Entomopathogenic viruses offer an eco-friendly biological approach for pest control, but their relatively slow action often limits practical applications.
