1. Effects of ageing and gonadal steroid hormones on pituitary prolactin (PRL) concentration in the chicken were investigated. 2. No difference was found in the qualitative electrophoretic patterns of the anterior pituitary homogenates at different ages ...

Luteinizing Hormone and Gonadal Steroid Levels During the Menstrual Cycle of Orangutans
Journal of Medical Primatology, 1984Scrum luteinizing hormone (LH), progesterone. 17β‐estradiol, and testosterone were measured during a single cycle each of five female orangutans, and urinary LH was measured in four of those cycles. Midcycle peaks in LH and luteal phase elevations in progesterone (5.7–13.8 ng/ml) suggested that the cycles were ovulatory.

Effects of Gonadal Steroid Hormones on Amylase Secretion in Pancreatic Lobules of Rats
Pancreas, 2007Because functional changes of the pancreas during the ovarian cycle are not fully understood, effects of gonadal steroid hormones on pancreatic amylase content and secretion were investigated. The estrus cycle of female rats was confirmed by vaginal smear.

Wolf and Quimby medium and its modified chemically-defined version were found to be most suitable among the eight media tested for shortterm culture of oocytes of the catfish, Heteropneustes fossilis. The modified Wolf and Quimby was employed to evaluate

Episodic Growth Hormone Secretory Pattern in Male Rats: Relationship to Gonadal Steroid Hormones
Journal of Veterinary Medicine Series A, 1989SummaryIn the present study sequential blood samples were obtained from freely‐behaving male rats bearing chronic intracardial venous cannulae. Blood samples were obtained at 20 min intervals for 6 h from intact rats, castrated rats, castrated rats treated with either testosterone propionate (TP) or estradiol benzoate (EB) and intact rats treated with ...

Diagnostic value of gonadal steroid hormones and gonadotropins in ovarian cystic lesions
Diagnostic Cytopathology, 1995AbstractDuring a 12‐mo period the fluid aspirated from 32 ovarian cystic lesions was assayed for 17β‐estradiol (E2), progesterone (P), testosterone (T), follicle‐stimulating hormone (FSH), and luteinizing hormone (LH). All cysts were subsequently subjected to histologic or cytologic examination. In 84.6% (11/13) of the proven follicular cysts, the E2 ...

Effects of Gonadal Steroids on Clearance of Growth Hormone at Steady State in the Rat*
Endocrinology, 1991Gonadal steroids have been implicated in the modulation of GH secretory patterns in the rat. We have studied the effects of testosterone (T) or estradiol (E2) on the steady state clearance (Clss) and plasma half-life (t1/2) of GH in male and female rats (n = 4-6/group). A femoral and a jugular cannula were surgically implanted into adult Sprague-Dawley

Behavioral Effects of Gonadal Hormones and Contraceptive Steroids in Primates
1969Although there is no doubt that ovarian steroids are essential for the expression of sexual receptivity in those female mammals which show well-defined periods of oestrus or heat, the extent to which this holds true for the higher primates, including man, remains controversial.

The Effects of Gonadal Hormones and Contraceptive Steroids on Tryptophan Metabolism
1969The pathway by which tryptophan is metabolized to yield nicotinic acid ribonucleotide has been the subject of considerable interest in recent years. Abnormal urinary excretion of metabolites of this pathway in vitamin B6 deficiency has led to the extensive use of a tryptophan load test for the study of pyridoxine requirements in man (1–3).
