Shorter Recruitment Periods and Higher Fecundity in High‐Latitude Populations of the Oryzias latipes Species Complex

open access: yesPopulation Ecology, Volume 68, Issue 1, January 2026.
We report seasonal changes in gonad weight and juvenile proportion in the wild medaka populations from different latitudes. Additionally, the relationship between body size and egg number indicates a larger fecundity in high‐latitudinal populations, supporting life history adaptations in these environments with shorter reproductive seasons. A Comparative Analysis of Intratesticular Versus Intra‐Epididymal Injections of Clove Essential Oil on Male Dog Sterilization

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 1, January 2026.
This study evaluated clove essential oil as a non‐surgical sterilant in male dogs. Both intratesticular and intra‐epididymal injections significantly reduced sperm concentration, motility and viability, with histological and sonographic evidence of reproductive tissue damage.

Diversification of Aquaculture Production in Relation to Global Change: The Case of the Domestication of Indigenous Euryhaline Catfish Species (Siluriformes) in the Mekong River Delta, Viet Nam

open access: yesReviews in Aquaculture, Volume 18, Issue 1, January 2026.
ABSTRACT The Mekong River Delta, the heart of Vietnam's aquaculture industry, is facing many challenges due to climate change, particularly salinity intrusion. In this context, this review aimed to assess the potential of indigenous euryhaline catfish species to diversify fish farming, strengthen food security, and build resilience in the region. Among

A long-term copper exposure on freshwater ecosystem using lotic mesocosms: Individual and population responses of three-spined sticklebacks (Gasterosteus aculeatus) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Three-spined stickleback (Gasterosteus aculeatus) was used as the highest trophic level predator in an outdoor mesocosm study assessing the effect of environmentally realistic copper concentration (0, 5, 25 and 75 μg L−1) over 18 months of continuous ...
