Evaluating gonadosomatic index as an estimator of reproductive condition in the invasive round goby, Neogobius melanostomus

Journal of Great Lakes Research, 2014
Using gonadosomatic index cut-off scores has become a standard protocol for selecting reproductive fish in studies on the reproductive biology of round goby, Neogobius melanostomus, a significant invader of the Laurentian Great Lakes, but the validity of this practice has not been validated with histological staging.

SELDI–TOF MS analysis of alkylphenol exposed Atlantic cod with phenotypic variation in gonadosomatic index

Marine Pollution Bulletin, 2011
Proteomics is a new and promising approach to evaluate potential effects of pollution. In order to investigate if there is a direct link between the protein expression profiles obtained by the SELDI-TOF MS technology and effects observed at the organism level in fish, plasma samples from unexposed and 20 ppb alkylphenol exposed female Atlantic cod ...

Seasonal Changes on Gonadosomatic Index and Maturation Stages in Common Pandora Pagellus erythrinus (L.)

Aquaculture International, 2004
A reproductive study was conducted on 305 individuals of common pandora Pagellus erythrinus, from Mazarron Bay (Murcia, southeast coast of Spain), providing information for a more adequate interpretation of the gonadosomatic index in this species and its relationship with the stage of maturity of the fish.

Seasonal variations in gonadosomatic index and seminal quality of squirrel monkeys (Saimiri collinsi)

Journal of Medical Primatology, 2022
AbstractBackgroundWe hypothesized that seasonal variations in testicular biometry in Saimiri collinsi are influenced by body mass and that testicular enlargement is related to improved seminal quality. Therefore, the gonadosomatic index (GSI) can be a tool to determine reproductive seasons and the predictors of seminal quality.MethodsBody mass ...

Report on gonadosomatic index, size at firs maturity and reproductive parameters

2018
European anchovy (Engraulis encrasicolus) and European sardine (Sardina pilchardus) have short lifespan and produce many eggs per body mass. Both species usually spawn at 1 year old. In order to understand population dynamics in small pelagic fish in the Mediterranean Sea it is necessary to have a good knowledge on the life-history traits of sardine ...

Studies on the gonadosomatic index and fecundity of chapila (Gudusia chapra Ham.)

1998
The study was conducted in pond to determine the fecundity and gonadosomatic index of chapila, Gudusia chapra. The male fish was found to attain sexual maturity at 7.7 cm and 7.41 g and that of the female at 9.3 cm and 14.65 g by standard-length and body-weight respectively.

Gonadosomatic index, epididymal mass index and haematology of male Wistar rat treated with carrot juice

Tropical Veterinarian, 2021
This study investigated the haematology, Gonadosomatic Index (GSI) and Epididymal Mass Index (EMI) of male Wistar rats treated with carrot juice. Carrot has been evaluated for a wide spectrum of activities including; wound healing, gastroprotective effect, Hepatoprotective effects against carbon tetrachloride intoxication in mouse liver cells ...

Trend in the gonadosomatic index of some large mammals in Croatia

2013
This contribution deals with the annual changes in the gonadosomatic index (GSI) for most species of large mammals in Croatia, which includes their pre-rutting, rutting and post-rutting period. It provides a comparable value of the GSI in relation to weight and age of the animals.
