Reproductive cycle and biochemical changes in the Gonads of the freshwater crab, Barytelphusa cunicularis (Westwood, 1836) [PDF]
The annual breeding cycle of the crab, Barytelphusa cunicularis, was determined by measuring monthly the size of the gpnad relative to the size of the animal.

CBX2 targets Lef1 for repression in XY gonads.
(A) ChIP-qPCR for CBX2 on embryonic gonads (2 replicates containing 50 pooled E13.5 and E14.5 XY gonads). Values represent mean ± SEM. (B) Gene expression profile of Lef1 in XX (pink) and XY (blue) supporting cells throughout sex determination from [41].

The ageing holobiont: crosstalk between telomere dynamics, oxidative stress and the gut microbiome
ABSTRACT The gut tissue is at the frontline of early onset of ageing. It exhibits high cell turnover rates and rapid telomere shortening, which can have systemic effects on the developing or senescing organism. We conducted a literature review of studies on the crosstalk between telomere length dynamics, telomerase activity, oxidative stress, and gut ...

Loss, persistence and reversal of phenotypic traits
ABSTRACT The irreversibility of complex trait loss has long been a tenet of evolutionary biology. However, this idea is increasingly at odds with the numerous documented exceptions across the Tree of Life. We synthesise this growing body of evidence across a diverse array of taxa and traits, exploring the evolutionary conditions that enable ...

On the importance of including both sexes in animal studies – insights from home‐cage monitoring
ABSTRACT A review of behavioural studies using home‐cage monitoring (HCM) systems revealed that over 61% of studies used only male subjects, with only 24% including both sexes, despite evidence of substantial behavioural differences between male and female animals. This bias could influence the outcomes of biomedical research.

Nonsteroidal signals originating in the gonads
The discovery of the various peptide factors in the gonads followed different paths. A number of factors were specifically searched for because of physiological experiments that predicted that an activity from the gonads was necessary to explain ...

In Vivo Cytoskeletal AMPA Receptor Transport Imaging in C. elegans
ABSTRACT Long‐distance intracellular transport of ionotropic glutamate receptors (iGluRs) is essential for proper excitatory synaptic function underlying learning and memory. Many neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative conditions have abnormal iGluR transport and trafficking, leading to an intense interest in the mechanisms and factors regulating these

Pretomanid is a component of the World Health Organization‐recommended treatment regimen for drug‐resistant tuberculosis in patients aged ≥ 14 years. While preclinical rodent studies identified testicular toxicity as a potential clinical liability at elevated doses, no corresponding effects were observed in nonhuman primates nor clinical hormone ...
