Tumors of the gonads in cases of gonadal dysgenesis and male pseudohermaphroditism
American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1960Abstract 1. 1. The authors present 13 cases of gonadal dysgenesis in which exploratory laparotomy was performed. 2. 2. Histological examination of the gonads revealed one gonadoblastoma, two dysgerminomas, and one hilus cell adenoma. In all these cases tumors were found on only one side while on the other there were rudimentary gonads.

A Patient with Pure Gonadal Dysgenesis, Gonadal Tumour and Virilisation
Australian and New Zealand Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, 1979Summary: A phenotypic female, karyotype XY, presented with virilisation and amenorrhoea. The gonads showed evidence of oestrogen and testosterone production and, in view of the risk of malignancy, a laparotomy was performed. A streak gonad was present on one side with a streak gonad containing discrete tumours on the other.

Mechanisms of Gonadal Differentiation
Science, 1981Sex differentiation is the result of the translation of genetic sex into gonadal sex. Without recognizable masculinizing signals the embryonic gonad will undergo ovarian differentiation. The main determinant of gonadal differentiation appears to be the presence or absence of a cell surface antigen, called H-Y antigen.
