Abstract The reproductive system includes not only the hypothalamus-pituitary gonadal (HPG) axis affecting the production of gametes and various sex accessory structures, but also includes the modulating roles of both the hypo thalamus-pituitary-thyroid (HPT) axis and the hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis.

Mechanisms of Gonadal Differentiation
Science, 1981Sex differentiation is the result of the translation of genetic sex into gonadal sex. Without recognizable masculinizing signals the embryonic gonad will undergo ovarian differentiation. The main determinant of gonadal differentiation appears to be the presence or absence of a cell surface antigen, called H-Y antigen.

Gonadal Dysgenesis with a Difference
Journal of Pediatric Endocrinology and Metabolism, 2004We report here an exceptional clinical finding of a 46,XY phenotypic female with complete gonadal dysgenesis, but who was found unexpectedly to have absence of the uterus and posterior vagina. Extensive review of current and past literature failed to confirm other reports of this variant form of complete gonadal dysgenesis.

Gonadal Activity and Chemotherapy-Induced Gonadal Damage
JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1988To the Editor.— The recent article by Drs Rivkees and Crawford1again reveals the tantalizing possibility that gonadal protection from cytotoxic drugs might be achieved by hormonal induction of gonadal quiescence. Our preliminary observation that this was possible in mice has been difficult to confirm2,3; however, a growing body of evidence in other ...
