The frequency of patella alta as defined by the method of Insall & Salvati in knees with femoro-patellar osteoarthrosis was determined. Patella alta was six times as frequent in knees with osteoarthrosis than in those with a normal femoro-patellar joint. Patella alta is more common in women and is often bilateral.

In an open study in 89 out-patients the effect of superoxide dismutase (Orgotein) in gonarthrosis (n = 75), post-operative or post-traumatic irritation (n = 8) and chondropathy (n = 6) was investigated. Orgotein (4 mg) was give intra-articularly once weekly for several weeks.
