Towards a theory of presence

open access: yesNoûs, EarlyView.
Abstract The present paper presents a new (formal) theory of presence according to which, roughly, to be present at a place is to have a delegate located at that place. One crucial feature of the theory is that something can be present at a place without thereby being located there.

Inference on the Attractor Space via Functional Approximation

open access: yesOxford Bulletin of Economics and Statistics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper discusses semiparametric inference on hypotheses on the cointegration and the attractor spaces for I(1)$$ I(1) $$ linear processes with moderately large cross‐sectional dimension. The approach is based on sample canonical correlations and functional approximation of Brownian motions, and it can be applied both to the whole system ...

Confidence Intervals for Price Discovery

open access: yesOxford Bulletin of Economics and Statistics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper discusses asymptotic and bootstrap confidence intervals for multivariate permanent‐transitory decompositions of cointegrated vector autoregressive I(1) systems, with a focus on price discovery. Alternative estimators of the permanent components are compared in terms of efficiency also under separable linear restrictions on the ...

Detecting Sparse Cointegration

open access: yesOxford Bulletin of Economics and Statistics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We propose a two‐step procedure for detecting sparse cointegration in high‐dimensional single‐equation models. First, we employ the adaptive lasso to identify the subset of integrated covariates driving the long‐run equilibrium relationship.

Following a setting of the scene and discussion of the motivation for the conference, the papers are summarised in ...

‘I'm Dead!’: Action, Homicide and Denied Catharsis in Early Modern Spanish Drama

open access: yesRenaissance Studies, EarlyView.
Abstract In early modern Spanish drama, the expression ‘¡Muerto soy!’ (‘I'm dead!’) is commonly used to indicate a literal death or to figuratively express a character's extreme fear or passion. Recent studies, even one collection published under the title of ‘¡Muerto soy!’, have paid scant attention to the phrase in context, a serious omission when ...
