Release site manipulation to favour European ground squirrel Spermophilus citellus translocations: translocation and habitat manipulation

open access: yesWildlife Biology, Volume 18, Issue 1, Page 97-104, March 2012., 2012
Translocating European ground squirrels Spermophilus citellus has become a popular conservation tool. However, few release techniques have been carefully evaluated. To contribute to an evidence‐based ground squirrel translocation guide for wildlife managers, we evaluated conditions of habitat manipulation (grass height and artificial burrow entrance ...

The use of Google EarthTM satellite imagery to detect the nests of masked boobies Sula dactylatra

open access: yesWildlife Biology, Volume 17, Issue 2, Page 210-216, June 2011., 2011
Abstract Masked boobies Sula dactylatra, like many other species of Sulidae, do not construct elaborate nests. However, their nest sites produce a characteristic ‘nest signature’. We found that these nest signatures could apparently be seen in freely available satellite images (Google EarthTM) of the main island of Ascension in the south Atlantic.

Prehistoric Intense Tropical Cyclones in the South Pacific Ocean

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 52, Issue 17, 16 September 2025.
Abstract Tropical cyclones in relation to global warming pose an increasing threat to coastal populations and property, highlighting an urgent need for millennial‐scale paleoclimate reconstructions. In this study, we reconstruct an 8500‐year record of tropical cyclone activity, based on sediment cores from a coastal lake in Fiji.

Reconstruction and palaeoclimatic implications of Loch Lomond Readvance glaciers in the Southeast Grampians, Scotland

open access: yesJournal of Quaternary Science, Volume 40, Issue 5, Page 747-763, July 2025.
ABSTRACT The glaciation of Scotland during the Loch Lomond Stadial (LLS; 12.9–11.7 ka BP) left a distinct and well‐preserved geomorphological signature, permitting detailed reconstructions of former glaciers and palaeoclimatic conditions. However, the extent and style of glaciation in the Southeast Grampians remains poorly constrained.

A Seascape Genomics Perspective on Restrictive Genetic Connectivity Overcoming Signals of Local Adaptations in the Green Abalone (Haliotis fulgens) of the California Current System

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 2, February 2025.
The green abalone exhibits a distinctive neutral genetic structuring influenced by geographic distance and marine currents rather than local adaptations. Analyses using 1900 neutral and 17 putative outlier SNPs revealed three distinct populations: the North group (California to Ensenada, Baja California), a population on Guadalupe Island, and the South
