The properties of microwave discharge in the Goubau line

High Temperature, 2008
The paper deals with a waveguide-coaxial microwave-frequency module capable of exciting a torch microwave discharge in air at the end of single-wire Goubau line. The properties of this discharge are described, as well as its possible uses for applying fine-structure films of refractory materials to substrates.

Planar excitation of Goubau Transmission Lines for THz BioMEMS

IEEE Microwave and Wireless Components Letters, 2005
We propose and demonstrate an original planar excitation of a single wire transmission line also known as Goubau-Line (G-Line). The excitation is based on an electromagnetic transition between a coplanar waveguide and the desired G-line in a planar configuration.

Goubau Ice Sensor Transitions for Electric Power Lines

Sensing and Imaging: An International Journal, 2009
In this paper, 50 Ohm coaxial line transitions required for sensing dielectric (or ice) coatings on power transmission lines (Goubau lines) at microwave frequencies (below 10 GHz) are proposed, designed and simulated. Two different types of transitions are needed: uni- and bi-directional. Computer simulations are performed using finite element methods (

Leaky mode dispersions of Goubau lines

Microwave and Optical Technology Letters, 2007
AbstractThe leaky dispersion characteristics of a Goubau line were numerically investigated for three lower‐order transverse magnetic (TM) modes by determining a complex propagation constant using Davidenko's method. As a result, physically meaningful spectral ranges of leaky modes were found to exist below the cutoff frequency of the Goubau line ...

An updated applied formulation for the Goubau transmission line

Journal of Applied Physics, 2019
The Goubau line is a unique transmission line that consists of only a single conductor. Its unique properties make it a solid candidate for low-loss RF propagation and wireless power transfer applications. However, the applied theory of this line that has been established thus far is missing key details of the line's characteristics.

Complex waves in a dielectric rod and goubau line

2017 International Conference on Electromagnetics in Advanced Applications (ICEAA), 2017
Existence of complex TM and TE waves in a dielectric waveguide of circular cross section and a Goubau line is proved by analyzing functional properties of the dispersion equations (DEs) using the theory of functions of several complex variables and validating the existence of complex roots of DE. The method proceeds from the analysis of general setting

Measurement of Coupling Impedances using a Goubau Line

2017
Longitudinal coupling impedances can be deduced from S-Parameter measurements performed on a Goubau Line. The Goubau Line, also known as single wire line, is a variant of the coaxial wire method. Both setups use a wire for mimicking the particle beam. Coaxial tapers at the wire ends adapt wave impedance to the 50ohm impedance of coaxial cables, sources

Properties of microwave discharge in Goubau transmission line

2007 Joint 32nd International Conference on Infrared and Millimeter Waves and the 15th International Conference on Terahertz Electronics, 2007
Experimental results of microwave discharge excitation at the edge of single transmission line are presented. The device, which consists of a waveguide, a resonator and coaxial line for energy transmission to Goubau line, is described. The dynamics of plasma formation at the line edge is analyzed by photographic method.

Optimization and application of on-chip terahertz Goubau lines

2013 38th International Conference on Infrared, Millimeter, and Terahertz Waves (IRMMW-THz), 2013
We demonstrate optimization of planar terahertz (THz) frequency Goubau lines to achieve a ~ 2 THz bandwidth. This has allowed high resolution, on-chip THz spectra of polycrystalline materials to be recorded over temperatures ranging from 4-292 K.
