Flip-chip distributed MEMS transmission lines (DMTLs) for biosensing applications [PDF]
Design and characterization of a flip-chip distributed MEMS transmission line (DMTL) are presented. The concept of using this DMTL as a biosensor is then introduced. Radio frequency experiments on the DMTL loaded with biosamples have been conducted using

Terahertz surface plasmon polariton propagation and focusing on periodically corrugated metal wires [PDF]
In this letter we show how the dispersion relation of surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) propagating along a perfectly conducting wire can be tailored by corrugating its surface with a periodic array of radial grooves.

Avramenko Diode Circuit Topology for Microwave Energy Harvesting in Goubau Line and Wireless Mediums
Wireless energy harvesting at microwave frequencies is a known challenge. The transmission medium to support delivery of a wireless energy is normally an insulator that conducts mainly a displacement current.

On-chip Terahertz Spectroscopy of Liquid Mixtures [PDF]
We demonstrate 'through-substrate' sensing of fluids for application in the terahertz spectroscopy of biological materials. This technique employs planar Goubau lines with integrated photoconductive material, formed on a flexible, thin polyimide ...

Measuring vacuum component impedance for the Argonne Advanced Photon Source upgrade
The Advanced Photon Source plans to upgrade to a multibend achromat (MBA) lattice that will dramatically decrease the electron beam emittance, thereby enhancing the x-ray brightness by two to three orders of magnitude.

TERAHERTZ SPIRAL PLANAR GOUBAU LINE REJECTORS FOR BIOLOGICAL CHARACTERIZATION [PDF]
Terahertz spectroscopy brings precious complementary information in life science by probing directly low energy bindings inside matter. This property has been demonstrated on dehydrated substances, and interesting results are obtained on liquid solutions. The next step is the characterization of living cells. We have successfully integrated THz passive

THz surface plasmon modes on planar Goubau lines
The dispersion relation and confinement of terahertz surface plasmon modes propagating along planar Goubau lines are studied using guided-wave time domain spectroscopy. We demonstrate the radial nature of the surface plasmon mode known as the Goubau mode and the transverse confinement of the electric field over a few tenths of microns (~l/10).

Mode Bifurcation and Fold Points of Complex Dispersion Curves for the Metamaterial Goubau Line
In this paper the complex dispersion curves of the four lowest-order transverse magnetic modes of a dielectric Goubau line ($\epsilon>0, \mu>0$) are compared with those of a dispersive metamaterial Goubau line.

Electromagnetic surface wave propagation in a metallic wire and the Lambert $W$ function
We revisit the solution due to Sommerfeld of a problem in classical electrodynamics, namely, that of the propagation of an electromagnetic axially symmetric surface wave (a low-attenuation single TM$_{01}$ mode) in a cylindrical metallic wire, and his ...
