As pacientes eram detidas pela polícia quando furtavam pedaços de seda em grandes lojas da cidade. No decorrer do acompanhamento clínico descobriu-se uma atração doentia das mesmas pela seda, e uma compulsão cleptomaníaca por furtá-las.
