It is not unreasonable to assume that Gozo, too, was seen as a similar haven. However, on the basis that present day Gozo is devoid of any good natural harbours, some have, not unreasonably, dismissed the possibility that the island could have had any significant maritime role in antiquity.6 Through this paper I intend to show that the island did ...

The flora and vegetation of Gozo
The Maltese Islands lie in the centre of the Mediterranean. The highest points for the two main islands are only 253 m (Ta' Zuta, Malta) and 191 m (Dbiegi, Gozo) above sea level. Therefore, as is to be expected, this archipelago is subjected to the typical climatic regime which is characteristic oflow-lying coastal Mediterranean areas.

Reflections on the historiography of hospitaller Gozo
If were asked to describe the state of our historiography today, I would not hesitate to define it as one experiencing a general crisis. Ironically, this crisis has been the result of the overwhelming quantitative progress achieved by our local archival researchers, Gozitan and Maltese, the massive accumulation (or should it be called a 'monstrous ...
