Effects of Modulation Techniques (Manchester Code, NRZ or RZ) on the Operation of Hybrid WDM/TDM Passive Optical Networks. [PDF]

open access: yesInt Sch Res Notices, 2014
In this paper, the performance and feasibility of a hybrid wavelength division multiplexing/time division multiplexing passive optical network (WDM/TDM PON) system with 128 optical network units (ONUs) is analysed. In this system, triple play services (video, voice and data) are successfully communicated through a distance of up to 28 km.

Energy saving in data processing and communication systems. [PDF]

open access: yesScientificWorldJournal, 2014
The power management of ICT systems, that is, data processing (Dp) and telecommunication (Tlc) systems, is becoming a relevant problem in economical terms. Dp systems totalize millions of servers and associated subsystems (processors, monitors, storage devices, etc.) all over the world that need to be electrically powered.

GPON unbundling for multioperator access [PDF]

open access: yes2012 15th International Telecommunications Network Strategy and Planning Symposium (NETWORKS), 2012
This work aims at considering different unbundling options for the Local Loop Unbundling (LLU) in order to provide multi-operator access and consider the economical impact for the FTTH NGA entrants to deploy such alternatives. We show that deploying WDM networks is an efficient strategy to perform LLU while upgrading the GPON network for the new era ...

Idle sense with transmission priority in fibre‐wireless networks

open access: yesIET Communications, Volume 14, Issue 9, Page 1428-1437, June 2020., 2020
The convergence of fibre and wireless technologies realised the fibre‐wireless (FiWi) networks. Despite huge capacity offered by fibre, the user experiences a network bottleneck caused by the wireless side. This study investigates wireless local area network (WLAN), the wireless side of the FiWi networks with a gigabits passive optical network (GPON ...
