Algorithms for compressing GPS trajectory data

Proceedings of the 18th SIGSPATIAL International Conference on Advances in Geographic Information Systems, 2010
The massive volumes of trajectory data generated by inexpensive GPS devices have led to difficulties in processing, querying, transmitting and storing such data. To overcome these difficulties, a number of algorithms for compressing trajectory data have been proposed.

A New Trajectory Similarity Measure for GPS Data

Proceedings of the 6th ACM SIGSPATIAL International Workshop on GeoStreaming, 2015
We present a new algorithm for measuring the similarity between trajectories, and in particular between GPS traces. We call this new similarity measure the Merge Distance (MD). Our approach is robust against subsampling and supersampling. We perform experiments to compare this new similarity measure with the two main approaches that have been used so ...

Similarity-Based Compression of GPS Trajectory Data

2013 Fourth International Conference on Computing for Geospatial Research and Application, 2013
The recent increase in the use of GPS-enabled devices has introduced a new demand for efficiently storing trajectory data. In this paper, we present a new technique that has a higher compression ratio for trajectory data than existing solutions. This technique splits trajectories into sub-trajectories according to the similarities among them.

Evaluating Roving Patrol Effectiveness by GPS Trajectory

2011 IEEE Ninth International Conference on Dependable, Autonomic and Secure Computing, 2011
Roving patrol plays a very important role in strengthening safety within campuses or communities through their patrol around the target. In fact, there maybe exist some patrolmen who do not work efficiently. Therefore, it is useful to quantitatively evaluate their roving effectiveness.

Evaluation of GPS trajectories on VGI and social websites

2013 21st International Conference on Geoinformatics, 2013
Nowadays, researchers tend to make use of GPS trajectories collected by companies, organizations, or volunteers. GPS trajectories on crowdsourcing websites are less widely used in researches but actually have great potential for various applications. Thus, this paper makes a comprehensive study on GPS trajectories on VGI websites and social websites ...

A Campus Carpooling System Based on GPS Trajectories

2019
College students are special because they relatively have tighter in economy but have greater consistency in leisure time. They prefer to go out together with schoolfellows due to higher trusts and closeness. Moreover, the electronic map is difficult to be updated. Campus-roads recently are updated rapidly.

Weightless neuro-symbolic GPS trajectory classification

Neurocomputing, 2018
Abstract This paper presents a framework for dealing with the problem of GPS trajectory classification in the context of the Rio de Janeiro’s public transit system (with hundreds or more classes). Such framework combines the versatile WiSARD classifier with a set of rules defined a priori, resulting in a neuro-symbolic learning system with very ...

Pattern Mining from Trajectory GPS Data

2012 IIAI International Conference on Advanced Applied Informatics, 2012
In this paper, we consider data mining from large discrete trajectory data. We study closed pattern mining for the class of trajectory envelope patterns. First, we introduce the basic definition of trajectory data. Then, we present a depth-first search algorithm that finds all trajectory envelope patterns in a given database that satisfies constrants ...

Virtual Running of GPS Vehicles for Trajectory Analysis

Proceedings of the 10th International Conference on Ubiquitous Information Management and Communication, 2016
Mining moving patterns from object trajectories is an crucial task for understanding movement characteristics. In this study, we propose a novel trajectory analysis method to detect split-and-merge patterns based on a virtual running method. A virtual run is a rearranged moving order of objects that minimizes the cost function and is used to perform ...

Constructing Street Networks from GPS Trajectories

2012
We consider the problem of constructing street networks from geo-referenced trajectory data: Given a set of trajectories in the plane, compute a street network that represents all trajectories in the set. We present a simple and practical incremental algorithm that is based on partial matching of the trajectories to the graph.
