Use of Human In Vitro Gut Specimens for Translational Neurogastroenterology and Motility in the 21st Century

open access: yesNeurogastroenterology &Motility, EarlyView.
In vitro studies with GI surgical specimens or biopsy are a critical step in translating preclinical studies in animals to humans before testing potential therapeutic interventions in expensive clinical trials. Routine availability of human gut specimens, in combination with technological advances and powerful new in vitro models of the human ENS from ...

The simplicity of physical laws

open access: yesNoûs, EarlyView.
Abstract Physical laws are strikingly simple, yet there is no a priori reason for them to be so. I propose that nomic realists—Humeans and non‐Humeans—should recognize simplicity as a fundamental epistemic guide for discovering and evaluating candidate physical laws.

Plastids in a Pinch: Coordinating Stress and Developmental Responses Through Retrograde Signalling

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Plastids are crucial for fuelling and regulating plant growth and development. Photosynthesising chloroplasts provide energy for growth, while other plastids play additional key roles in various aspects of plant physiology. For function and development, plastids greatly depend on nucleus‐encoded proteins, and they can modulate the synthesis of

Reason and reciprocity: A response to Emotion and Virtue

open access: yesAnalytic Philosophy, EarlyView.
Abstract This paper is a review of Emotion and Virtue, by Gopal Sreenivasan. Besides providing an overview of the book, it is suggested that the view of the virtues which gives less weight to the emotions remains plausible, as does the thesis of the unity of virtue.

Identification of potential cell surface targets in patient‐derived cultures toward photoimmunotherapy of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesPhotochemistry and Photobiology, EarlyView.
Through mRNA sequencing, proteomics, and flow cytometry, we identified potential cell surface targets toward tumor‐targeted, activatable photoimmunotherapy (taPIT) in advanced high‐grade serous ovarian cancers (HGSOCs) with low EGFR expression. The reliance on EGFR overexpression has been a major limitation of taPIT, which this study seeks to address ...

Gall responses to drying habitats: Insights from the community of galling herbivores associated with the superhost Caryocar brasiliense Cambess. (Caryocaraceae)

open access: yesPlant Biology, EarlyView.
Drying processes in the Brazilian palm swamps or Veredas, impact the gall community in adjacent vegetation by reducing the abundance of more sensitive galls, while more resilient galls acclimate to increased dryness by developing thicker protective tissues. Abstract Galls are new plant organs formed in response to the stimuli of gall‐inducing organisms,
