A singular semilinear problem with dependence on the gradient

Journal of Differential Equations, 2016
This paper is concerned with the study of positive solutions of a class of semilinear elliptic equations with singular nonlinearity, gradient term, and Dirichlet boundary condition. The authors establish sufficient conditions for the existence of classical and weak solutions.

Gradient direction dependencies in natural images

Spatial Vision, 2007
We have used information-theoretic measures to compute the amount of dependency which exists between two and three gradient directions at separate locations in an ensemble of natural images. Control experiments were performed on other image classes: phase randomized natural images, whitened natural images and Gaussian noise images.

Natural gradient for temporally dependent component analysis

2010 Sixth International Conference on Natural Computation, 2010
The temporally dependent component analysis (TDCA) method for blind source separation (BSS) is introduced. As a new principle, it is shown that maximizing the mapping of autocorrelation of source signals can be used to perform BSS. We use the natural gradient algorithm for TDCA and study the mathematical properties of TDCA.

On gradient dependent diffusivity

Chemical Engineering Science, 1973
Abstract It is a known fact that surface diffusion is dependent on temperature and concentration. Data on adsorption of water in microporous silica gel indicate that an additional quantity is influencing diffusivity in such a system. These observations can be explained by a surface diffusivity depending on concentration gradient.

Data-dependent bounds on network gradient descent

2016 54th Annual Allerton Conference on Communication, Control, and Computing (Allerton), 2016
We study a consensus-based distributed stochastic gradient method for distributed optimization in a setting common for machine learning applications. Nodes in the network hold disjoint data and seek to optimize a common objective which decomposes into a sum of convex functions of individual data points.

Gradient‐dependent plasticity: Formulation and algorithmic aspects

International Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, 1992
AbstractA plasticity theory is proposed in which the yield strength not only depends on an equivalent plastic strain measure (hardening parameter), but also on the Laplacian thereof. The consistency condition now results in a differential equation instead of an algebraic equation as in conventional plasticity.
