Variations in flowering phenology and reproductive success in Setaria lachnea [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Setaria lachnea, moha perenne, is a native grass with excellent forage quality; thus, its introduction to cultivation has been recommended. Therefore, in the present study, the variability in flowering phenology and reproductive success of three ...

Environmental determinants of West Nile virus vector abundance at the wildlife–livestock interface Determinantes ambientales de la abundancia de vectores del virus del Nilo Occidental en la interfaz fauna‐ganado

open access: yesMedical and Veterinary Entomology, Volume 39, Issue 1, Page 200-215, March 2025.
Mosquito communities in southern inland Iberia are dominated by highly competent vectors of West Nile virus. The coexistence of Culex pipiens and Culex theileri in southern inland Iberia indicates that both species should be involved in West Nile virus transmission.

open access: yes, 1986
Bryophytic vegetation along an elevation gradient of 1350 m in Montseny has been studied by sampling 36 stones or walls with different moisture index, calculated from the distance to the nearest running water.

Still little evidence of poleward range shifts in the tropics, but lowland biotic attrition may be underway

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 57, Issue 1, January 2025.
Based on reviews of more than 450 studies, documented climate‐driven species range shifts within the terrestrial tropics have been exclusively upslope—none poleward, a pattern we attribute to the lack of latitudinal temperature gradients within the tropics, as illustrated here.

Vertebrate diversity and biomass along a recovery gradient in a lowland tropical forest

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 57, Issue 1, January 2025.
Deforestation of tropical forests has resulted in large areas of secondary forests with the potential for biodiversity to re‐establish to levels usually found in old‐growth forests. This study shows that diversity and biomass of mammals and birds in regenerating forests can recover to old‐growth levels within a relatively short time.

Distribution of grasses along an altitudinal gradient in a Venezuelan paramo Distribución de gramíneas a lo largo de un gradiente altitudinal en un páramo de Venezuela

open access: yesRevista Chilena de Historia Natural, 2004
In Venezuelan paramos grasses, after Asteraceae, are the second family in numerical importance. We studied their distribution in an altitudinal gradient located in Venezuela, Sierra de La Culata, between 2,500 and 4,200 m of altitude.
