Knee length versus thigh length graduated compression stockings for prevention of deep vein thrombosis in postoperative surgical patients

open access: yes, 2012
BACKGROUND: Graduated compression stockings (GCS) are a valuable means of thromboprophylaxis in hospitalised postoperative surgical patients. But it is still unclear whether knee length graduated compression stockings (KL) or thigh length (TL) stockings ...

Mapping the “Supply–Demand–Flow” of Ecosystem Services for Ecosystem Management in China

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study develops a “supply–demand–flow” framework clarifies how ecosystem services move between regions by distinguishing potential and actual supply and demand. Using integrated biophysical–socioeconomic modeling, nine services in China were mapped.

Dual‐Network Protein Hydrogels Promote Rapid Hemostasis and Immune‐Regulated Scarless Tissue Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A dual‐network protein hydrogel substantially improves hemostasis and scar‐free healing. The adaptive network maintains intimate tissue contact while providing strong wet adhesion, tunable mechanics, and controlled degradation. Concurrent ROS scavenging and M2 polarization suppress fibrotic pathways, preventing scar formation.

Wireless, Adaptable and Fully Implantable Battery‐powered Devices for Optical Stimulation of the Spinal Cord in Small Rodents

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Current technologies for spinal cord optogenetic stimulation rely on external power sources and face reliability constraints in freely behaving animals. Here, a fully implantable, battery‐powered optoelectronic device is introduced, enabling operation in any selected environment with wireless recharging for months‐long stimulation.

Effect of elastic compression stockings on venous hemodynamics during walking

open access: yes, 2003
Purpose: Venous hemodynamics evaluated during walking better reflect changes that occur under active physiologic conditions than do conventional static modes of exercise such as tip-toe exercise, knee bending, or dorsiflexion.

Neuromorphic Near‐Sensor and In‐Sensor Computing Enabled by Next‐Generation Material‐Based Sensors

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This Review presents a structural framework that classifies neuromorphic sensing into near‐sensor and in‐sensor architectures, clarifying physical coupling between sensing and computation. The framework connects neural and synaptic device functions with recent advances in optical, mechanical, and chemical sensing, compares energy consumption and ...

Effects of a Dietary Supplement Composed of Baicalin, Bromelain and Escin for Venous Chronic Insufficiency Treatment: Insights from a Retrospective Observational Study

open access: yesPharmaceuticals
Chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) represents a risk factor for cardiovascular events. The first-line treatment includes the use of compression stockings and lifestyle changes. Natural products, such as flavonoids, could be used to improve the effects of

Elastic compression treatment of chronic superficial venous insufficiency of the lower limbs based on Doppler venous pressure index measurements

open access: yesVeins and Lymphatics, 2015
Ineffectiveness or discomfort from graduated elastic compression stockings (GES) in patients with chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) and/or varicose veins of the lower limbs (VVLL) can depend of inappropriate counter pressure applied.
