Incommensurate grain-boundary atomic structure [PDF]

open access: yesNature Communications, 2023
Grain-boundary atomic structures of crystalline materials have long been believed to be commensurate with the crystal periodicity of the adjacent crystals.

Grain boundary engineering for efficient and durable electrocatalysis [PDF]

open access: yesNature Communications
Grain boundaries in noble metal catalysts have been identified as critical sites for enhancing catalytic activity in electrochemical reactions such as the oxygen reduction reaction.

Dislocation-Grain Boundary Interaction Dataset for FCC Cu [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Data
Interactions between dislocations and grain boundaries play a major role in controlling the strength and ductility of structural materials. Experimentally, assessing and probing geometric and stress-based criteria at the local level for dislocation ...

Electron Radiation Effects of Grain-Boundary Evolution on Polycrystalline Silicon in MEMS

open access: yesMicromachines, 2022
A specimen observed with a transmission electron microscope (TEM) was processed by focused ion beam (FIB) from a surface-micromachined polycrystalline silicon MEMS structure. Electron irradiation and in situ observation were performed on a selected grain

Grain Boundary Shear Coupling is Not a Grain Boundary Property [PDF]

open access: yesSSRN Electronic Journal, 2018
Shear coupling implies that all grain boundary (GB) migration necessarily creates mechanical stresses/strains and is a key component to the evolution of all polycrystalline microstructures. We present MD simulation data and theoretical analyses that demonstrate the GB shear coupling is not an intrinsic GB property, but rather strongly depends on the ...

Research progress in grain boundary serration in iron/nickel based austenitic polycrystalline alloys

open access: yes工程科学学报, 2021
Grain boundaries of high-temperature metallic materials, such as alloys, are often considered weak. At elevated temperatures, the strength of the grain boundary is relatively lower than that of the intragranular areas, and cracks often initially form on ...

Grain boundary dislocations in plane matching grain boundaries [PDF]

open access: yesPhysica Status Solidi (a), 1979
Plane matching (PM) boundaries are defined as boundaries in which a single stack of planes of indices (hkl) in each crystal adjoining the boundary is either parallel, or nearly parallel, and where no other significant lattice matching exists. A search is made (by transmission electron microscopy) for possible intrinsic secondary grain boundary ...

Grain boundary effects on piezoelectric properties of the core–shell-structured BaTiO3@TiO2 ceramics [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Dielectrics, 2018
Grain boundary effect on BaTiO3 has been widely investigated for several decades. However, all of them tailored the grain boundary by grain size of BaTiO3.

Effect of Mo and Cr on S-Induced Intergranular Fracture in γ-Fe

open access: yesMetals, 2022
S is a common corrosion medium for austenitic stainless steels. The severe intergranular fracture of austenitic stainless steels occurs in sulfur environments.

Grain boundaries in vortex matter [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review B, 2005
We explore the statistical properties of grain boundaries in the vortex polycrystalline phase of type II superconductors. Treating grain boundaries as arrays of dislocations interacting through linear elasticity, we show that self-interaction of a deformed grain boundary is equivalent to a non-local long-range surface tension.
