Interface character distributions in WC/Co cemented carbide
Electron backscatter diffraction, five parameter analysis, overlap-pole-figure analysis and near coincident site analysis were used to investigate the interface character distributions of WC/WC grain boundaries and WC/Co phase boundaries in WC/Co ...

Effect of shear-coupled grain boundary motion on coherent precipitation
We examine the interaction between precipitates and grain boundaries, which undergo shear-coupled motion. The elastic problem, emerging from grain boundary perturbations and an elastic mismatch strain induced by the precipitates, is analysed.

Using Molecular Dynamics (MD) and Monte Carlo (MC) simulations, we studied the grain boundary (GB) segregation under different temperatures and Cr concentrations in Ni-Cr alloys with two distinct grain-boundary structures, i.e., Σ5(310)[010] and Σ101(200)

Molecular Dynamics Calculations of Grain Boundary Mobility in CdTe
Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations have been applied to study mobilities of Σ3, Σ7 and Σ11 grain boundaries in CdTe. First, an existing MD approach to drive the motion of grain boundaries in face-centered-cubic and body-centered-cubic ...

Grain boundary energies and cohesive strength as a function of geometry
Cohesive laws are stress-strain curves used in finite element calculations to describe the debonding of interfaces such as grain boundaries. It would be convenient to describe grain boundary cohesive laws as a function of the parameters needed to ...

The superheated Melting of Grain Boundary [PDF]
Based on a model of the melting of Grain Boundary (GB), we discuss the possibility of the existence of superheated GB state. A Molecular Dynamics simulation presented here shows that the superheated GB state can realized in the high symmetric tilt GB ...

Boundary plane-oriented grain boundary model generation
Abstract This study proposes algorithms for building tilt grain boundary (GB) models with a boundary plane-oriented approach that does not rely on existence of a coincidence site lattice (CSL). As conventional GB model generation uses the CSL of superimposed grains as the starting point, our totally different ...

Nanocrystalline metals contain a large fraction of high-energy grain boundaries, which may be considered as glassy phases. Consequently, with decreasing grain size, a crossover in the deformation behaviour of nanocrystals to that of metallic glasses has ...

Importance of frequency-dependent grain boundary scattering in nanocrystalline silicon and silicon-germanium thermoelectrics [PDF]
Nanocrystalline silicon and silicon-germanium alloys are promising thermoelectric materials that have achieved substantially improved figure of merits compared to their bulk counterparts. This enhancement is typically attributed to a reduction in lattice
