Soil management calculator for predicting phosphorus losses under cropping systems in Western Australia

open access: yes, 2011
Agriculture in many parts of the world is coming under increasing pressure to develop management practices that will minimise phosphorus (P) loss to the environment.

Controlled Engineering of 2D Alkali‐Iron‐Chloride Compounds and Lateral Quantum Heterostructures Within Confined Graphene Nanoreactors

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work presents a programmable atomic engineering strategy for 2D materials using Å‐scale nanoreactors formed by bilayer graphene (BLG) intercalation. A new class of alkali‐iron‐chloride compounds, along with lateral heterostructures composed of monolayer alkali halides and iron chlorides, is revealed.

Grain marketing parastatals in Asia [PDF]

open access: yes
Using case studies from six Asian countries, this paper (a) assesses the relevance of underlying rationales for public intervention in foodgrain markets, (b) documents the existing policies and regulations that support operation of grain parastatals, (c)

A simulation of optimum power requirements of selected grain threshers

open access: yesArid Zone Journal of Engineering, Technology and Environment, 2001
A power requirement model was simulated at three factor interaction of process variables in order to select a combination of optimum crop and machine variables (crop moisture content, feed rate, cylinder speed) that will yield minimum grain losses for ...

Review of Thermally Activated Twisted Coiled Polymer Actuators: A Materials Science Perspective

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Thermally activated twisted and coiled polymer actuators (TCPAs) combine lightweight design, large deformation, and scalable fabrication for soft robotic and wearable applications. This review connects polymer structure, processing history, helix geometry, and thermomechanical characterization to actuator performance, highlighting current challenges in

Nano‐Scale Characterization of Impurities Segregation in Solid Oxide Electrolysis Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Cathodic polarization induces impurity segregation in Ni, forming an amorphous Na─Al─Si─O amorphous phase at grain boundaries. Under ultralow oxygen partial pressure, multiple elements dissolve, migrate, and reoxidize within the metal. A patterned model system provides direct nanoscale evidence, clarifying the mechanism of polarization‐driven impurity ...

Water deficits in wheat: Fructan exohydrolase (1-FEH) mRNA expression and relationship to soluble carbohydrate concentrations in two varieties

open access: yes, 2009
Terminal drought is a risk for wheat production in many parts of the world. Robust physiological traits for resilience would enhance the preselection of breeding lines in drought-prone areas.

Sustainable Electrochemical Synthesis of High‐Quality MXenes: Mechanistic Insights, Applications, Challenges, and Technological Prospects

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Electrochemical etching provides an eco‐friendly alternative to hazardous HF methods for MXene production. This approach facilitates the selective isolation of the A‐layer from MAX phases with tunable surface terminations. Controlling voltage, electrolytes, temperature, and duration enables the optimal structural integrity. Nevertheless, existing scale

Is Storage at a Loss Merely an Illusion of Spatial Aggregation?

open access: yes
The storage-at-a-loss paradox—stocks despite inadequate price growth to cover storage costs—is an unresolved issue of long-standing interest to economists.

Coagulative Granular Hydrogels with an Enzyme Catalyzed Fibrin Network for Endogenous Tissue Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Coagulative granular hydrogels are composed of packed thrombin‐functionalized microgels that catalyze the conversion of fibrinogen into a secondary fibrin network, filling the interstitial voids. This bio‐inspired approach stabilizes the biomaterial to match the robustness of bulk hydrogels without compromising injectability, mimicking the initial ...
