Pressure effects on the thermal stability of SiC fibers [PDF]

open access: yes
Commercially available polymer derived SiC fibers were treated at temperatures from 1000 to 2200 C in vacuum and argon gas pressure of 1 and 1360 atm.

Stored grain compaction factor: accurate factors are necessary because volume measurements will not give exact measure of grain [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
It is well known that grain undergoes compression when subjected to cumulative weight exerted from the overlying material in a storage unit. The extent of compression depends on several factors associated with the stored materials (crop type, test weight,

CALPHAD‐Guided Prediction and Interpretation of Phase Formation in Ta–Mo–Cr–Ti–Al Refractory High‐Entropy Alloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study designs Ta–Mo–Cr–Ti–Al refractory high‐entropy alloys with a disordered body‐centered‐cubic A2 crystal structure aiming for improved ductility, lower density, and oxidation resistance. Four alloy compositions are identified by thermodynamic calculations.

Query-adaptive Image Retrieval by Deep Weighted Hashing [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2016
Hashing methods have attracted much attention for large scale image retrieval. Some deep hashing methods have achieved promising results by taking advantage of the strong representation power of deep networks recently. However, existing deep hashing methods treat all hash bits equally.

Evaluating Dielectric Properties for Semicrystalline Thermoplastics to Analyze the Thermal and Rheological Properties in Laser‐Based Powder Bed Fusion of Plastics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study aims to establish a link between the dielectric properties of polyamide 12 (PA12) and its thermal and rheological properties using dielectric analysis (DEA). A standardized methodology is introduced to determine melting and crystallization temperatures.

Reactive Interaction and Wetting of Fe‐ and Mn‐Containing, Secondary AlSi Alloys with Manganese Oxide Ceramic Filter Material for Fe Removal

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Fe‐ and Mn‐containing AlSi alloys undergo aluminothermic reaction with Mn oxide in sessile‐drop and crucible experiments forming poor‐wetting Al2O3 while Mn enriches in the alloy. Primary Fe‐containing particles are preferentially attached to the Mn oxide.

Modeling Metallic Microstructure Using Moving Finite Elements [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 1997
We present an efficient method for anealing 3d metallic grains using Gradient Weighted Moving Finite Elements (GWMFE). The initial grain microstructure is generated from Monte-Carlo evolution of a an effective discrete model on the initial (frozen) unstructured grid generated for the external geometry of the GWMFE calculation.
