Sex Determination in Sponges. [PDF]
ABSTRACT Sex determination in Porifera remains one of the least understood aspects of early metazoan biology despite the group's key phylogenetic position. Sponges display exceptional diversity in sexual systems—ranging from stable gonochorism to sequential hermaphroditism and sex reversal—yet lack morphological dimorphism and any discrete gonadal ...

Competition for waterborne food resources among tropical shallow-water sponges. [PDF]
Abstract A recurrent theme in marine ecology is that the community dynamics of sessile, suspension‐feeding animals is primarily limited by the availability of space, but in some habitats, filtration by these organisms may locally deplete water column resources, setting the stage for exploitative competition for food.

The Potential Habitat of Liparis campylostalix (Orchidaceae) in China Under Climate Change Scenario Predicted by MaxEnt Model. [PDF]
This study used the Maxent model, ENMTools, and ArcGIS to predict L. campylostalix's ecological pattern in China, based on its geographical distribution and environmental factors. Under current climate, it mainly distributes in Liaoning, Jilin, Shandong (suitable area 1.845 million km2), with four key variables affecting it: annual precipitation (27.9%)

Genomic analysis reveals deep population divergence in the water snake Trimerodytes percarinatus (Serpentes, Natricidae). [PDF]
In this work, we used both mtDNA data and SNP data to explore the population genetic structure, genetic diversity, and evolutionary history of a widespread, semiaquatic, non‐venomous snake Trimerodytes percarinatus. We hope our present study will be of wide interest to systematic researchers and phylogeographers.

Recovery of insular seabird populations years after rodent eradication
Abstract Seabirds have been particularly affected by invasive non‐native species, which has led to the implementation of numerous eradication campaigns for the conservation of these keystone and highly vulnerable species. Although the benefits of eradication of invasive non‐native species for seabird conservation have been demonstrated, the recovery ...

Smaller species experience mild adversity under shading in an old‐field plant community
We characterized the light environment and tested for evidence of a size‐advantage in light competition in an old‐field plant community. We found that plots with taller species cast more shade, and that smaller species were less abundant and diverse in plots where light penetration was low; however, variation in mean plot height explained less than 10%
