Vessels in the Graminea

Summary Vessels in 36 genera and 51 species distributed among 11 tribes of two groups: Panicoideae and Pooideae of the Gramineae are presented. The vessels have simple perforation plates which are always two in number. The shape of the vessels is consistent in the family. The adjacent wall thickening is predominantly simple pitted.

Karel Borivoj Presl (1794-1852), botanist. Born at Prague February 17th 1794, died at Prague October 2nd 1852. Presl studied medicine at the University of Prague and travelled in 1817 to Italy and Sicily for science. His rare dissertation (presented here) describes grasses of Sicily.
