Grammatical Architecture? [PDF]

open access: possibleEnvironment and Planning B: Planning and Design, 1992
It is argued that the shape grammarians canot deliver their promises; that they have, nonetheless, opened a discussion that might be made to span the principal modalities of architectural design: seeing and saying.

Grammatical unification

Information Processing Letters, 1982
This paper presents a generalization of the concept of unification introduced by \textit{J. A. Robinson} [J. Assoc. Math. 12, 23-41 (1965; Zbl 0139.123)] for resolution logic. Unification is the central procedure for performing manipulation of symbolic structures in resolution theorem proving.

Crossover in Grammatical Evolution

Genetic Programming and Evolvable Machines, 2003
Summary: We present an investigation into crossover in Grammatical Evolution that begins by examining a biologically-inspired homologous crossover operator that is compared to standard one and two-point operators. Results demonstrate that this homologous operator is no better than the simpler one-point operator traditionally adopted. An analysis of the

Grammatical design

IEEE Expert, 1997
Design can be regarded as the process of transforming an initial set of requirements (and possibly an initial design) into an explicit, complete specification of an object that satisfies those requirements. The designer's task involves repeated cycles of considering an existing partial design, comparing it with the design goal, deciding on a ...

Grammatical production versus grammatical recognition

IRAL - International Review of Applied Linguistics in Language Teaching, 2000
This paper looks into the errors made by Saudi students in their production and recognition of grammatical structures in English. It was found that the number of errors that Saudi students make in production is higher than that in recognition. This means that Saudi students are less competent in grammatical production than in grammatical recognition.

Grammatical evolution

Proceedings of the 9th annual conference companion on Genetic and evolutionary computation, 2007
Grammatical Evolution is an automatic programming system that is a form of Genetic Programming that uses grammars to evolve structures. These structures can be in any form that can be specified using a grammar, including computer languages, graphs and neural networks.

Grammatical Framework

Journal of Functional Programming, 2004
Grammatical Framework (GF) is a special-purpose functional language for defining grammars. It uses a Logical Framework (LF) for a description of abstract syntax, and adds to this a notation for defining concrete syntax. GF grammars themselves are purely declarative, but can be used both for linearizing syntax trees and parsing strings.

Gender, Grammatical

2006
The term 'gender' requires discussion, since linguistic traditions differ here. This requires us to confront the analytical issue of determining the number of genders in a given language. The central concern of this article will be gender assignment-that is, the way in which the native speaker allots nouns to genders.

Grammatical inference in bioinformatics

IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, 2005
Bioinformatics is an active research area aimed at developing intelligent systems for analyses of molecular biology. Many methods based on formal language theory, statistical theory, and learning theory have been developed for modeling and analyzing biological sequences such as DNA, RNA, and proteins.
