Adaptive optics for the Gran Telescopio Canarias
SPIE Proceedings, 1998It is foreseen that the Gran Telescopio Canarias will include an Adaptive Optics (AO) system to provide diffraction-limited images in the near-IR. The preliminary scientific requirements are presented here and are used to determine the basic system specifications. The sky coverage is determined for the cases of natural and laser guide stars.

Global model of the Gran Telescopio Canarias
SPIE Proceedings, 2002During the conceptual design of the GTC (Gran Telescopio Canarias) it was suggested to develop a Global Model of the behaviour of the GTC system to be used as a tool for the system engineering. This Global Model should be a dynamical simulation capable to predict the pointing, tracking, guiding and image quality of the GTC system in several simulation ...

The Gran Telescopio Canarias (GTC) project
New Astronomy Reviews, 1998Abstract The outstanding quality of the Canarian sky, protected by law, makes it feasible to install the largest telescopes in the world at the observatories of the Instituto de Astrofisica de Canarias (IAC), which has promoted the design and construction of the Gran Telescopio Canarias (GTC).

Ignimbrite sequence on Gran Canaria
Bulletin Volcanologique, 1969The Miocene sequence of felsic extrusive rocks of about 1000 m total thickness on Gran Canaria is divided into three units: a) A lower unit of trachytic rhyolites (lavas, composite flows, ignimbrites) characterized by a phenocryst assemblage of anorthoclase (Or15–20, wt%), clinopyroxene, hypersthene (amphibole substituted for both in ignimbrites),

The Occurrence of Mycoplasmas in the Lungs of Swine in Gran Canaria (Spain)
Veterinary Research Communications, 2005The study was conducted to investigate the mycoplasmal flora in the lungs of pigs with enzootic pneumonia at Gran Canaria (Spain). From 54 pneumonic lungs collected at an abattoir, 85 isolates were cultivated. On the basis of cultural and biochemical characteristics, the isolates were preliminarily identified as Mycoplasma species.
