Photon Linear Collider Gamma-Gamma Summary

open access: yes, 2012
High energy photon - photon collisions can be achieved by adding high average power short-pulse lasers to the Linear Collider, enabling an expanded physics program for the facility. The technology required to realize a photon linear collider continues to

Nests in trees are as good as or better than cliffs for two formerly persecuted, primarily cliff nesting eagles in Spain: a cautionary tale in defining the habitat of range‐restricted or threatened species

open access: yesWildlife Biology, EarlyView.
In the late‐20th century, golden and Bonelli's eagles suffered population declines on the Iberian Peninsula, partly due to human persecution. Habitat assessments – especially for Bonelli's eagles – always found or assumed strong associations with cliffs that provided nesting sites.

Herbivore and mesocarnivore carcasses trigger divergent short‐term changes in soil properties

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
Scavengers reshape nutrient cycles in soils under carrion. Compared to herbivore carcasses, smaller but longer‐lasting carnivore remains boost nutrient levels and microbial activity in dry soils. Abstract Animal corpses act as pulses of organic matter (OM) and serve a key zoogeochemical role by providing localized nutrient inputs to soils and thereby ...

Contrasting properties of predation and scavenging networks governed by megaherbivores in an African savannah

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
For the first time, predation and scavenging networks are directly compared within a single ecosystem. Using an 8‐year dataset of African mammals, including megaherbivores, this study reveals distinct structural rules and body mass constraints, providing a scalable framework for studying consumer–resource dynamics and ecosystem function.

Transition to university: Concerns and support perceived by students with autism spectrum disorder

open access: yesBritish Journal of Special Education, EarlyView.
Abstract Access to higher education represents a significant challenge for students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) due to the social, academic and sensory demands involved. This study analysed the concerns and perceived supports of 180 pre‐university students with ASD (M = 18.3; SD = 1.1), using a descriptive‐correlational quantitative approach ...

M. E. Grant Duff, Philosophic Liberalism and the Global Liberal Cause

open access: yesHistory, EarlyView.
Abstract Historians disagree about how best to conceptualize nineteenth‐century British Liberalism in relation to its international contexts. This article argues that we can better understand the patterns involved by interrogating individuals who bridged the worlds of partisan politics and elaborated thought.
