Non-circular motion estimation of the grand-design spiral galaxy NGC 628

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2013
I present a harmonic decomposition analysis of the grand-design spiral galaxy NGC 628 using the H I data from The H I Nearby Galaxy Survey (THINGS), Walter et al., Astron. J. 136, 2563 (2008).

Blue and near-infrared surface photometry of spiral structure in 34 nonbarred grand design and flocculent galaxies

open access: closedThe Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series, 1984

The Car–Sgr arm as outlined by superclouds and the grand design of the Galaxy

, 1998
It is found that H I superclouds are regularly spaced along the very long Car-Sgr arm, the mutual distances being mostly 0.1 and 0.2 in units of the Solar distance to the centre.

Gravitational instability and spatial regularity of the gas clouds and young stellar population in spiral arms of NGC 628

Astronomy & Astrophysics
There is a clear contradiction between the characteristic spacings in observed regular chains of star-forming regions in the spiral arms of galaxies (∼500 pc) and the estimates of the wavelength of gravitational instability in them ($>1$ kpc).

Grand design and flocculent spirals in the Spitzer survey of stellar structure in galaxies (S⁴G)

2011
Spiral arm properties of 46 galaxies in the Spitzer Survey of Stellar Structure in Galaxies (S(4)G) were measured at 3.6 mu m, where extinction is small and the old stars dominate. The sample includes flocculent, multiple arm, and grand design types with a wide range of Hubble and bar types.
