Rapid Gamete Maturation and Social Modulation Shape Reproductive Dynamics in a Brood Parasitic Catfish

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 2, February 2026.
Obligatory brood parasitism in the Lake Tanganyika cuckoo catfish requires rapid reproductive readiness to exploit unpredictable host spawning. Our experiments showed that males are almost continuously ready to reproduce, while females ovulate about once a week, with social interactions enhancing gamete maturation in both sexes.

Raman Spectroscopic Analysis and In Situ Heating Experiments on Adranosite Minerals

open access: yesJournal of Raman Spectroscopy, Volume 57, Issue 2, Page 343-359, February 2026.
This study provides the first detailed Raman spectroscopic characterization of rare ammonium sulfates adranosite, iron‐rich adranosite, and adranosite‐(Fe) from volcanic and coal‐fire environments. Distinct spectral features reveal compositional differences and structural effects of Fe substitution.

All‐Fiber Microsensor of Polarization at Single‐Photon Level Aided by Deep Learning

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, Volume 20, Issue 3, 5 February 2026.
Introducing a polarization sensor using scattering in a short optical fiber and deep learning. The breakthrough lies in sparse sampling of the scattered light and single‐photon sensitivity. The all‐fiber sensor achieves unprecedented accuracy, speed, resolution, and stability.

Revisiting Hyaluronan Catabolism in Bacteroides: Pathway Conservation, Overlooked Proteins, and Predictive Accuracy

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 1, February 2026.
Hyaluronan degradation in Bacteroides cannot be reliably predicted from canonical PL8/GH88 enzymes alone. Experimental validation reveals coordinated induction of noncanonical accessory proteins (BT4410/BT4411), highlighting pathway plasticity and context‐dependent glycosaminoglycan utilization. ABSTRACT The ability of gut microbes to degrade host‐ and

Is UWLS Really Better for Medical Research?

open access: yesStatistics in Medicine, Volume 45, Issue 3-5, February 2026.
ABSTRACT This study evaluates the performance of the Unrestricted Weighted Least Squares (UWLS) estimator in meta‐analyses of medical research. Using a large‐scale simulation approach, it addresses the limitations of model selection criteria in small‐sample contexts.
