Kariera akademicka w Europie: niestabilność w warunkach systemowej konkurencji [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The academic labor market is becoming highly competitive, at all levels, rather than as traditionally, in lower academic ranks only. While successive milestones need to be reached, they result more often than ever before from a steady accumulation of ...

Liquid Metal Microrobots for Magnetically Guided Transvascular Navigation

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Liquid metal‐based microrobots combine magnetic steering, intrinsic X‐ray visibility and softness, to navigate blood vessels even against flow. Under clinically relevant magnetic fields, liquid metal microrobots roll along vessel walls, cross endothelial barriers, and accumulate in target tissues.

Microwave Absorption for Detection of Dirac Fermions in SnTe Films

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Microwave absorption can detect Dirac fermions in samples exposed to the atmosphere. Results showed that although topological surface states are robust against environmental degradation, they are not detectable by electrical transport measurements. Hence, microwave absorption can detect Dirac fermions even in samples whose surfaces have deteriorated ...

Substituent Effects on Cyanine Dyes Vary with Position and Chain Length

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
In cyanines, substituent effects vary as a function of substituent position and cyanine length. Electron‐donating‐ and ‐withdrawing groups at meso‐ and α‐positions of 4n+1/4n−1 long cyanines (n = 1, 2, 3…) cause opposing, hypsochromic and bathochromic shifts of the 1st UV–vis absorption bands.

Spectral Selectivity Enhancement in Solar Absorber Multilayers through Titanium Oxynitride Thin Film Modulation

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
Optical and plasmonic properties of TiN and Ti(O)N thin films were tuned at the synthesis stage by modulating the oxygen pressure during room‐temperature pulsed laser deposition. Ti(O)N thin films exhibiting a highly metallic and peculiar double‐epsilon‐near‐zero (DENZ) behavior were produced.

The Faraday Scalpel: Electrochemical Nerve Lesioning Mechanisms Studied in Invertebrate Models

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Direct‐current produces nerve lesioning through discrete electrochemical reactions. Using hypoxia‐sensitive locust nerves and hypoxia‐tolerant leech nerves, we map three injury pathways: cathodic oxygen reduction, cathodic alkalization, and anodic chloride oxidation. These findings establish electrochemical lesioning—the “Faraday Scalpel”—as a precise,

Pozabudżetowe źródła finansowania bibliotek akademickich w Polsce i innych krajach gospodarki wolnorynkowej. Wybrane przykłady i próby porównania. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Ograniczone fundusze budżetowe w Polsce, podobnie jak i w innych krajach gospodarki wolnorynkowej spowodowały potrzebę znalezienia innych źródeł dofinansowania bibliotek akademickich.

Ethical and Frugal Approaches to Animal Experimentation in Bioelectronics and Neural Engineering—An Invertebrate Renaissance?

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
Invertebrates are the classic neuroscience models and should make a comeback. Invertebrate organisms can be a more ethical and cost‐effective way to move bioelectronics research forward more rapidly. ABSTRACT The accelerating development of bioelectronic neural interfaces has brought increased attention to ethical considerations surrounding in vivo ...
