Granular computing for data mining

SPIE Proceedings, 2006
Granular computing, as an emerging research field, provides a conceptual framework for studying many issues in data mining. This paper examines some of those issues, including data and knowledge representation and processing. It is demonstrated that one of the fundamental tasks of data mining is searching for the right level of granularity in data and ...

A Categorial Basis for Granular Computing

2007
The theory of granular computing is accorded a formal mathematical basis, by presenting its main features using a category-theoretic language. A category $\cal C_G$ of granulations is proposed. It is shown how two main operations between granulations, viz. coarsening and refinement, can be expressed in terms of $\cal C_G$-morphisms.

Covering-based granular computing

2008 IEEE International Conference on Granular Computing, 2008
Granular computing is a methodology for intelligent information processing. It uses granules such as classes, clusters, subsets, and blocks to construct an efficient computational model for complex applications with huge amounts of data, information and knowledge. This subject is related to other fields such as artificial intelligence, cluster analysis,

Fuzzy Measures and Granular Computing

2010
From the view point of granular computing, by analyzing the structure of fuzzy measures based on the quotient space analytical method, we have the following results: (1) the necessary and sufficient condition of the isomorphism of fuzzy measure functions in fuzzy mathematics; (2) the necessary and sufficient condition of the fuzzy and granular monotony

Granular Computing and Cognitive Informatics

2006 5th IEEE International Conference on Cognitive Informatics, 2006
Although the term "granular computing (GrC)" was first explicitly used by researchers in computational intelligence, its fundamental ideas and principles have long appeared in many branches of sciences. Granular computing, in our view, attempts to extract the commonalities from existing fields to establish a set of generally applicable principles, to ...

Algebraic method for granular computing

2008 IEEE International Conference on Granular Computing, 2008
The ideas and principles of granular computing, i.e., problem solving with different granularities, have been studied in many fields. Granular computing is becoming an intriguing research direction for more and more researchers all over the world. For the further improvement of granular computing, it seems that we researchers need to do more researches
