The granular column collapse: A retrospective [PDF]

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences
The granular column collapse consists on the release of a granular volume let to deform or collapse under self-weight until eventually reaching a temporary or permanent stable deposit.

Fluctuating hydrodynamics for dilute granular gases [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2009
Starting from the kinetic equations for the fluctuations and correlations of a dilute gas of inelastic hard spheres or disks, a Boltzmann-Langevin equation for the one-particle distribution function of the homogeneous cooling state is constructed. This equation is the linear Boltzmann equation with a fluctuating white noise term.

What Do Large Language Models Know About Materials?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
If large language models (LLMs) are to be used inside the material discovery and engineering process, they must be benchmarked for the accurateness of intrinsic material knowledge. The current work introduces 1) a reasoning process through the processing–structure–property–performance chain and 2) a tool for benchmarking knowledge of LLMs concerning ...

A numerical study of the Navier–Stokes transport coefficients for two-dimensional granular hydrodynamics

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2013
A numerical study that aims to analyze the thermal mechanisms of unsteady, supersonic granular flow by means of hydrodynamic simulations of the Navier–Stokes granular equation is reported in this paper.

Tomographic Measurements of Granular Flows in Gases and in Liquids

open access: yesKONA Powder and Particle Journal, 2014
Two distinct non-intrusive radiation methods known as scanning gamma ray tomography and single profile photon absorptiometry are presented in this paper as tools for the investigation of interstitial voidage ...

Thermodynamic Pathways of Nonequilibrium Solidification in Wire‐Arc Additive Manufacturing Fe‐Based Multicomponent Alloy Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Geometry‐driven thermal behavior in wire‐arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) influences microstructural evolution during nonequilibrium solidification of a chemically complex Fe–Cr–Nb–W–Mo–C nanocomposite system. By comparing different deposits configurations, distinct entropy–cooling rate correlations, segregation, and carbide evolution are revealed ...

Vibration Induced Phenomena in Granular Media in Microgravity

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2017
In order to study the dynamical behavior and the handling properties of granular materials under microgravity conditions, ESA is developing the VIP-Gran instrument whose multiple functionalities allow for the study of Vibration Induced Phenomena in ...

Machine learning for prediction of dynamical clustering in granular gases [PDF]

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences
Continuously excited dense granular gases in microgravity can develop spatial inhomogeneities of the particle distribution. Dynamical clustering is a phenomenon where a significant share of particles concentrate in strongly overpopulated regions.

Alkali-Activated Zeolite 4A Granules—Characterization and Suitability Assessment for the Application of Adsorption

open access: yesCrystals, 2021
A major problem in the field of adsorbents is that binders (kaolin clay, bentonite) introduced to bind zeolites and ensure the needed mechanical strength, are not able to sorb gases like CO2 and N2, and decrease the overall adsorption capacity.
