Extraction of extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) from anaerobic granular sludges: comparison of chemical and physical extraction protocols [PDF]
International audienceThe characteristics of the extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) extracted with nine different extraction protocols from four different types of anaerobic granular sludge were studied. The efficiency of four physical (sonication,

Effect of inoculum and sludge concentration on viscosity evolution of anaerobic granular sludges
The rheological behaviour of granular sludges (diameter 20–315 μm) originating from different anaerobic reactors was carried out using rotation tests. The sieved granular sludges suspensions display a non-Newtonian rheological behaviour and the limit viscosity was therefore used as a rheological parameter. The values obtained, which depend on the shear

Effect of recycling the slime layer extracted sludge on the sludge granulation
Recycling of extracellular polymeric substances(EPS) has been extensively explored. However, in-situ reuse of EPS-extracted sludge to the sewage treatment system has been rarely reported. After extracting the slime layer of activated sludge, the modified

This study optimized electrocoagulation as a pretreatment for electrodialysis of road runoff water affected by de‐icing salts. The optimized pretreatment effectively reduced suspended solids and turbidity, minimizing membrane fouling. Improved pretreatment enhanced ion‐exchange membrane performance and electrodialysis efficiency.

Granulation for Coking Wastewater Treatment in a Coupled Anaerobic-Aerobic Reactor
A coupled anaerobic-aerobic granular bio-film reactor was employed with two operation stages: Stage I, granular sludge was formed from digestion sludge using brewery wastewater, and Stage II, granular sludge was acclimatized using coking wastewater.
