Alternative Granulation Technique: Melt Granulation
Drug Development and Industrial Pharmacy, 1996AbstractA melt granulation process has been investigated (1, 2) which efficiently agglomerates pharmaceutical powders for use in both immediate- and sustained-release solid dosage forms. The process utilizes materials that are effective as granulating fluids when they are in the molten state.

Intelligent granules: Are eosinophil crystalloid granules inimitable?
Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, 2010The controversy surrounding the effector function of eosinophils in health and disease continues at both the clinical and basic discovery levels. Two recent studies reported that an anti-human IL-5 mAb (mepolizumab) specifically targeting eosinophils significantly reduced asthma exacerbations, providing interesting insights into the potential role of ...

Microbial communities of aerobic granules: Granulation mechanisms
Bioresource Technology, 2014Aerobic granulation is an advanced biological wastewater treatment technology. This study for the first time identified the microbial communities of sliced samples of mature granules by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification and denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE) technique and those of whole growing granules by high-throughput ...

Twin screw granulation: Steps in granule growth
International Journal of Pharmaceutics, 2012The present work focuses on the study of the progression of granules in different compartments along the length of screws in a twin screw granulator (TSG). The effects of varying powder feed rate; liquid to solid ratio and viscosity of granulation liquid on properties of granules was studied.

Although considerable knowledge has been acquired concerning the chemical nature of insulin and its pathway of biosynthesis, relatively little is known about the other proteins which constitute the insulin secretory granule. This, in part, has been a consequence of the difficulties of working with pancreatic islets as a tissue source and the attendant ...

Coupling granule properties and granulation rates in high-shear granulation
Powder Technology, 2003It is possible to link granulation rates to granule properties. The linkage is by multiple dimension population balance equations that, by means of simplifying assumptions, can be reduced to multiple one-dimensional (1-D) population balance equations (PBES).

Roles of Granule Size in Over-Granulation During High Shear Wet Granulation
Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 2010A mechanistic understanding of the over-granulation problem during high shear wet granulation (HSWG) process can guide efficient development of robust formulation and manufacturing process. Using microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) as a model compound, we demonstrate that size enlargement is an important mechanism for over-granulation in HSWG.
