A reaction-diffusion model for Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
This paper aims to investigate a reaction-diffusion model which describes in-host infection for Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) allowing random motion (i.e. linear diffusion) and chemotaxis (i.e. non-linear diffusion) of macrophages and bacteria populations.

EXACT-CT: EXplainable Analysis for Crohn's and Tuberculosis using CT [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Crohn's disease and intestinal tuberculosis share many overlapping features such as clinical, radiological, endoscopic, and histological features - particularly granulomas, making it challenging to clinically differentiate them. Our research leverages 3D CTE scans, computer vision, and machine learning to improve this differentiation to avoid harmful ...

Endomyocardial biopsy in the diagnosis of cardiac sarcoidosis

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Heart Failure, Volume 27, Issue 3, Page 488-497, March 2025.
The diagnostic performance of endomyocardial biopsy (EMB) in 216 patients with cardiac sarcoidosis (CS). The overall sensitivity of the first EMB was 38%, although it varied markedly depending on the extent and severity of the disease. Major complications were rare (<1%) and no deaths or permanent sequels were observed.

Understanding Sarcoidosis Using Large Language Models and Social Media Data [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Healthcare Informatics Research, 2024
Sarcoidosis is a rare inflammatory disease characterized by the formation of granulomas in various organs. The disease presents diagnostic and treatment challenges due to its diverse manifestations and unpredictable nature. In this study, we employed a Large Language Model (LLM) to analyze sarcoidosis-related discussions on the social media platform ...

Severity of effect considerations regarding the use of mutation as a toxicological endpoint for risk assessment: A report from the 8th International Workshop on Genotoxicity Testing (IWGT)

open access: yesEnvironmental and Molecular Mutagenesis, EarlyView.
Abstract Exposure levels without appreciable human health risk may be determined by dividing a point of departure on a dose–response curve (e.g., benchmark dose) by a composite adjustment factor (AF). An “effect severity” AF (ESAF) is employed in some regulatory contexts.

Advancing Chronic Tuberculosis Diagnostics Using Vision-Language Models: A Multi modal Framework for Precision Analysis [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Background: This study proposes a Vision-Language Model (VLM) leveraging the SIGLIP encoder and Gemma-3b transformer decoder to enhance automated chronic tuberculosis (TB) screening. By integrating chest X-ray images with clinical data, the model addresses the challenges of manual interpretation, improving diagnostic consistency and accessibility ...

Sarcoid‐Like Reaction (SLR) Associated With Immune Checkpoint Inhibitors in Metastatic Renal Cell Carcinoma

open access: yesIJU Case Reports, Volume 8, Issue 3, Page 285-288, May 2025.
ABSTRACT Introduction Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) are useful in the treatment of metastatic renal cell carcinoma. ICIs have been associated with a variety of immune‐related adverse events (irAEs), one of which is a sarcoid‐like reaction (SLR). SLR is often difficult to distinguish from cancer progression.
