RANKL in human periapical granuloma: possible involvement in periapical bone destruction
Objectives: The cytokine receptor activator of nuclear factor κB‐ligand (RANKL) has been involved in both the physiological and pathological regulation of osteoclast life span and bone metabolism. Periapical granuloma is a periradicular lesion characterized by periapical bone destruction.

Nonsurgical Endodontic Retreatment of a Large Cyst-Like Periapical Lesion With Buccal and Palatal Cortical Plate Perforations and Maxillary Sinus Involvement: A 2-Year CBCT Follow-Up Case Report. [PDF]
ABSTRACT Large cyst‐like periapical radiolucencies with cortical perforations are traditionally managed surgically. However, nonsurgical retreatment may be effective when adequate disinfection and seal are achieved. This case report describes the management of a large maxillary periapical lesion involving five endodontically treated teeth (from 21 to ...

Metastatic Lung Carcinoma Presenting as Pyogenic Granuloma Around Dental Implant. [PDF]
ABSTRACT Oral cavity metastases are uncommon and may clinically present as swelling or mass formation. Pyogenic granuloma is a benign periodontal lesion that often appears as a bleeding mass. Both lesions can develop around dental implants, complicating diagnosis.

CBCT-Assisted Microsurgical Management of Dual Periapical Lesions Involving Vital and Previously Endodontically Treated Maxillary Molars: A Case Report. [PDF]
This graphical abstract summarizes a case where CBCT‐assisted apical microsurgery with retrograde vital pulp therapy (retroVPT) using CEM cement successfully resolved dual periapical lesions involving a vital and a previously treated molar, preserving pulp vitality and achieving complete periapical healing without conventional root canal treatment ...

Exploring Persistent Apical Periodontitis in Humans: Integrative Genetic, Histological and Microbiological Perspectives for Translational Research. [PDF]
ABSTRACT Aim To evaluate the impact of polymorphisms in SOCS‐1, TNF‐α and RANKL on gene expression of RANK, RANKL, TNFRSF1, SOCS‐1, IL‐10, IL‐1β and TNF‐α, and to evaluate the histopathological, immunohistochemical and microbiological aspects of persistent apical periodontitis (PAP) after root canal treatment (RCT) in Brazilian individuals ...

Clinical periodontal diagnosis
Abstract Periodontal diseases include pathological conditions elicited by the presence of bacterial biofilms leading to a host response. In the diagnostic process, clinical signs such as bleeding on probing, development of periodontal pockets and gingival recessions, furcation involvement and presence of radiographic bone loss should be assessed prior ...
