Distance, granulometry, skeleton [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
In this chapter, we present a series of concepts and operators based on the notion of distance. As often with mathematical morphology, there exists more than one way to present ideas, that are simultaneously equivalent and complementary.

A Morphological Approach for Granulometry with Application to Image Denoising

open access: yes, 2007
Granulometry formalizes the intuitive geometric notion of a sieving process. It was initially set oriented to extract size distribution from binary images, and has been extended to function operators to analyze and extract texture features in grey-scale images.

Distribution patterns of microplastics in subtidal sediments from the Sado river estuary and the Arrábida marine park, Portugal

open access: yesFrontiers in Environmental Science, 2022
Understanding local accumulation patterns of microplastics in subtidal sediments is crucial to assess how available such particles are for ingestion by benthic feeders and to identify the potential pollution sources in the region upon which is urgent to ...

Morphological and Physicochemical Properties of Termite Mounds in the Mixed Deciduous Forests of Thailand

open access: yesFloresta e Ambiente, 2021
In this study, we surveyed termites in Thailand and characterized the mounds they built in mixed deciduous forests. We analyzed soil samples from termite mounds for moisture, electrical conductivity, temperature, pH, and soil texture.

Geochemistry and Sedimentology of a Minerotrophic Peat in a Western Mediterranean Mountain Wilderness Area

open access: yesQuaternary, 2022
Sedimentological and biogeochemical measurements were conducted on minerotrophic peat in a wilderness area on a granitic plateau to reconstruct the local ecosystem’s history and clarify the peat’s response to local and global changes.

Comparison of 2D Optical Imaging and 3D Microtomography Shape Measurements of a Coastal Bioclastic Calcareous Sand

open access: yesJournal of Imaging, 2022
This article compares measurements of particle shape parameters from three-dimensional (3D) X-ray micro-computed tomography (μCT) and two-dimensional (2D) dynamic image analysis (DIA) from the optical microscopy of a coastal bioclastic calcareous sand ...

Relationships between deep-water polychaete fauna and environmental factors in the southeastern Gulf of California, Mexico

open access: yesScientia Marina, 2007
Polychaetes inhabiting deep-sea soft bottoms in the southeastern Gulf of California were collected during four oceanographic cruises in 2000 and 2001 at a depth range of 732-2110 m. A total of 84 taxa, representing 32 families, were collected.
