Fundamental Principles for Calculating Charged Defect Ionization Energies in Ultrathin Two-Dimensional Materials

open access: yes, 2018
Defects in 2D materials are becoming prominent candidates for quantum emitters and scalable optoelectronic applications. However, several physical properties that characterize their behavior, such as charged defect ionization energies, are difficult to ...

Graphane electrochemistry: Electron transfer at hydrogenated graphenes

open access: yesElectrochemistry Communications, 2012
Abstract Graphane, the hydrogenated derivate of graphene is a highly novel material in the field of two dimensional nanocarbon related research. Preparation of hydrogenated graphene is achieved via a high-pressure/high-temperature (up to 150 bar and 500 °C) thermal exfoliation procedure of graphite oxide.

The Influence of Graphene Curvature on Hydrogen Adsorption: Towards Hydrogen Storage Devices

open access: yes, 2013
The ability of atomic hydrogen to chemisorb on graphene makes the latter a promising material for hydrogen storage. Based on scanning tunneling microscopy techniques, we report on site-selective adsorption of atomic hydrogen on convexly curved regions of

GraphAne: From Synthesis to Applications

open access: yes, 2015
Atomically thin crystals have recently been the focus of attention in particular after the synthesis of graphene, a monolayer hexagonal crystal structure of carbon. In this novel material class the chemically derived graphenes have attracted tremendous interest.

Hydrogenated graphene systems: A novel growth and hydrogenation process

open access: yesCarbon Trends
Octadecylphosphonic acid self-assembled monolayers were used as a combined carbon and hydrogen source to grow graphene films on sapphire substrates via hot filament chemical vapor deposition.

Phase separation of hydrogen atoms adsorbed on graphene and the smoothness of the graphene-graphane interface

open access: yes, 2011
The electronic properties of a graphene sheet with attached hydrogen atoms is studied using a modified Falicov-Kimball model on the honeycomb lattice. It is shown that in the ground state this system separates into two phases: fully hydrogenated graphene

Wettability of pristine and alkyl-functionalized graphane

open access: yesThe Journal of Chemical Physics, 2012
Graphane is a hydrogenated form of graphene with high bandgap and planar structure insensitive to a broad range of chemical substitutions. We describe an atomistic simulation approach to predict wetting properties of this new material. We determine the contact angle to be 73°.

Electronic properties of mesoscopic graphene structures: charge confinement and control of spin and charge transport

open access: yes, 2011
This brief review discusses electronic properties of mesoscopic graphene-based structures. These allow controlling the confinement and transport of charge and spin; thus, they are of interest not only for fundamental research, but also for applications ...

Large-gap quantum spin Hall insulators in tin films

open access: yes, 2013
The search of large-gap quantum spin Hall (QSH) insulators and effective approaches to tune QSH states is important for both fundamental and practical interests.
