Comment on "A Model for Studying Display Methods of Statistical Graphics"
Journal of Computational and Graphical Statistics, 1993I find Bill Cleveland's paper interesting because it argues in favor of a dichotomous framework for collection of visual information that we can develop to improve methods for graphical data analysis. We would all like to believe in statistical holography; that is, that there is some instrument for "looking at data" (microscope, macroscope, tweezers ...

Describing Data: Statistical and Graphical Methods
Radiology, 2002An important step in any analysis is to describe the data by using descriptive and graphic methods. The author provides an approach to the most commonly used numeric and graphic methods for describing data. Methods are presented for summarizing data numerically, including presentation of data in tables and calculation of statistics for central tendency,

Statistical and Graphical Research Methods: State of the Art
Social Science Computer Review, 1989Recent developments in software products have provided researchers with an opportunity for more effective data analysis and presentation of findings. In addition to expanding researchers' options for data analysis and presentation, the easy-to-use interfaces of new software products will likely decrease the amount of time spent in and improve the ...

A Graphical Method for Parameter Learning of Symbolic-Statistical Models
1999We present an efficient method for statistical parameter learning of a certain class of symbolic-statistical models (called PRISM programs) including hidden Markov models (HMMs). To learn the parameters, we adopt the EM algorithm, an iterative method for maximum likelihood estimation.

Simultaneous determination of miconazole (MIC), mometasone furaoate (MF), and gentamicin (GEN) in their pharmaceutical combination. Gentamicin determination is based on derivatization with of o-phthalaldehyde reagent (OPA) without any interference of other cited drugs, while the spectra of MIC and MF are resolved using both successive and progressive ...

Some graphical methods in statistics: A review and some extensions
Statistica Neerlandica, 1977Summary  A review of some graphical methods for comparing two populations is given. The methods are applied to survival times of radiated and control mice and some results concerning the model and the effect of radiation are obtained. An extension to methods for several populations is derived and a partial table for carrying it out is given.

A Model for Studying Display Methods of Statistical Graphics
Journal of Computational and Graphical Statistics, 1993Abstract A method of statistical graphics consists of two parts: a selection of statistical information to be displayed and a selection of a visual display method to encode the information. Some display methods lead to efficient, accurate visual decoding of encoded information, and others lead to inefficient, inaccurate decoding.

Graphical Methods in Computational Statistics
2009One of the first steps in attempting to understand data is to visualize it. Visualization of data and information provides a wealth of tools that can be used in detecting features, in discovering relationships, and finally in retaining the knowledge gained. Graphical displays have always been an important part of statistical data analysis, but with the

Graphical method for comparative statistical study of vaccine potency tests
Vaccine, 1984Producers and consumers are interested in some of the intrinsic characteristics of vaccine potency assays for the comparative evaluation of suitable experimental design. A graphical method is developed which represents the precision of test results, the sensitivity of such results to changes in dosage, and the relevance of the results in the way they ...

Progress with Numerical and Graphical Methods for Practical Bayesian Statistics
The Statistician, 1987One of the main obstacles to the routine implementation of Bayesian methods has been the absence of efficient algorithms for carrying out the computational tasks implicit in the Bayesian approach. In this paper, recent progress towards overcoming this problem is reviewed.
