Measuring and modelling parameters from hyperspectral sensors for site-specific crop protection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
This thesis sought to optimise systems for plant protection in precision agriculture through developing a field method for estimating crop status parameters from hyperspectral sensors, and an empirical model for estimating the required herbicide dose in ...

Status of ash (Fraxinus spp.) in mixed hardwood post‐outbreak forests near the epicentre of the emerald ash borer invasion

open access: yesAgricultural and Forest Entomology, EarlyView.
The persistence and health of ash populations were characterized in post‐outbreak forests near the epicentre of the emerald ash borer (EAB) invasion in North America. Regenerating ash remained abundant, but densities of understory ash were higher in wetlands (hydric), while ash remained at the seedling stage in riparian (mesic) and upland (xeric ...

SALSA® (Ethametsulfuron-methjyl 75% WG): A novel selective herbicide for oilseed rape in Europe

open access: yesJulius-Kühn-Archiv, 2012
SALSA® is a novel selective herbicide in oilseed rape for the control of important broadleaved weeds postemergence in fall. EU registration is applied for at 25 g/ha + surfactant (Trend 90).

Weed control, protein and forage yield of seven grass species in lucerne-grass associations

open access: yesField Crops Research
The reduction of chemical inputs in agriculture is a current challenge. Perennial forage legumes such as lucerne produce protein-rich forage without synthetic nitrogen fertilizers but the crops may be invaded by weeds. Association of legumes with grasses are recognized to lower weed pressure but may alter forage yield and quality.

Information flow and the adoption of soil‐improving and water conservation measures, and household welfare: Insights from a randomized controlled trial in Uganda

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Agricultural Economics, EarlyView.
Abstract Extension services are designed to facilitate the flow of information from researchers to farmers. However, information failures continue to impede the diffusion of soil‐improving and water conservation technologies in Sub‐Saharan African countries. We use a randomized controlled trial (RCT) to examine the impact of an extension‐based campaign

Terendak Military Cemetery: Bodies, Burials, and ‘Operation Bring Them Home'

open access: yesAustralian Journal of Politics &History, EarlyView.
Terendak Military Cemetery occupies an unusual position in the history of Australian war cemeteries. Initially established to service the needs of the community at Terendak Garrison—the operational base for Commonwealth forces in Malaya during the early years of the Cold War—it became the official overseas burial site of Australian dead during the ...

Uncovering correlates of decline and critical refuges for a threatened terrestrial mammal

open access: yesConservation Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract Globally, the geographic ranges of numerous species are contracting. Identifying spatiotemporal patterns of threat impact can illuminate why species decline in some parts of their range but persist in others. We developed a correlative approach to identify species’ response thresholds and locate ecological refuge areas associated with ...

Weeds in flax: Chemical control of grasses and broad-leafed weeds in Imperial County

open access: yesCalifornia Agriculture, 1949
Control of weeds in flax may be accomplished by crop rotation, by cultural practices, and by chemical weed control.

An Investment Analysis Approach to Examining Bio-Control of Invasive Weeds

open access: yes
Invasive weeds are a large problem on large tracts of rangeland in North America. Biological methods of control have been instituted, but many information gaps remain. An investment model approach is used to demonstrate some of the potentially key pieces
