Extraction and Analysis of Grasshopper Potential Habitat in Hulunbuir Based on the Maximum Entropy Model

open access: yesRemote Sensing
Grasshoppers have profound effects on both grassland ecosystems and livestock production. Despite commendable efforts made by China in grasshopper control, completely eradicating or preventing them still remains a distant prospect.

Increasing the Acceptability of Insect‐Based Foods as Future Foods: A Comprehensive Review of Barriers, Strategies, and Pathways to Mainstream Adoption

open access: yesComprehensive Reviews in Food Science and Food Safety, Volume 25, Issue 4, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Edible insects are increasingly recognized for their high nutritional value and favorable environmental profile, yet their acceptance (defined as the continuum from willingness to try and purchase to repeated consumption) in Western and globalized food systems remains limited by cultural, sensory, regulatory, and economic barriers.

Toddlers’ Active Gaze Behavior Supports Self‐Supervised Object Learning

open access: yesDevelopmental Science, Volume 29, Issue 4, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Toddlers learn to recognize objects from different viewpoints with almost no supervision. During this learning, they execute frequent eye and head movements that shape their visual experience. It is presently unclear if and how these behaviors contribute to toddlers’ emerging object recognition abilities.

Insects and Survival: A Review of Primary and Secondary Defense Strategies

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, Volume 174, Issue 7, Page 601-624, July 2026.
Based on a review of three decades of literature, insect defense mechanisms are classified into primary (I) and secondary (II) mechanisms of behavioral, morphological, and chemical nature. These mechanisms have been recorded in 22 (I) and 20 (II) orders, respectively.

The Effect of Heterospecific Song and Anthropogenic Sound on the Development of Life History Traits in a Field Cricket

open access: yesEthology, Volume 132, Issue 7, Page 466-476, July 2026.
We raised fall field crickets in acoustic environments of silence, their own song, traffic noise, or the song of the recently introduced Japanese burrowing cricket and measured development, size, and adult survival. We found that crickets reared with burrowing cricket song developed more quickly than crickets reared in silence.

Evolution of Crematogaster sordidula (Hymenoptera, Formicidae) Ants in the Mediterranean Region During Plio‐Pleistocene Climatic Changes

open access: yesZoologica Scripta, Volume 55, Issue 4, Page 615-638, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Understanding insect responses to global climate change involves identifying strategies used during past climate oscillations. Phylogeography offers a powerful framework to unravel how historical climatic and geological events have shaped the spatial genetic patterns of species, providing critical insights into evolutionary processes, whereas ...

Triply‐Twinned Metamaterials: Unraveling the Mechanics and Failure Pathways Through High‐Resolution XCT

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 38, Issue 31, 2 June 2026.
Triply‐twinned architected lattices transform deformation from bending to stretching of struts, delivering up to threefold increases in stiffness and strength across polymeric and metallic systems. High‐resolution synchrotron XCT and image‐based simulations reveal how meta‐grain architecture, defects, and AM build orientation govern failure pathways ...
