Seasonal drivers of plant–soil–microbial community structure and functions in Western Himalayan grasslands, Pakistan

open access: yesGrassland Research, EarlyView.
Plant species richness was greater in summer in both alpine and subalpine grassland ecosystems. Soil moisture demonstrates significant positive correlations with soil organic carbon and total nitrogen across seasonal periods. Microbial α‐diversity peaks during summer but maintains functional stability across seasons.

Nitrogen fertilizer requirements of silage maize and sorghum–sudangrass grown after 4 years of alfalfa production in a semi‐arid environment

open access: yesGrassland Research
Background This 2‐year study sought to determine the influence of N application rates following alfalfa termination on biomass production and quality of the succeeding crops of maize (Zea mays L.) and sorghum–sudangrass (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench ...

Late summer plateau pika spatial habitat use revealed by high‐resolution wildlife tracking and unmanned aerial vehicle data on the Qinghai‐Tibet Plateau

open access: yesGrassland Research, EarlyView.
Tiny “ecosystem engineers,” plateau pikas range across 1600 m², about two basketball courts, mixing soil and nutrients that sustain Tibet's fragile grasslands. Custom‐made trackers and drone imagery show dawn‐to‐dusk surface foraging and nested‐scale patch choices, offering fresh guidance for wildlife‐friendly grazing management.

Estimation of environmental impact of conversion to organic agriculture in Hamburg using the Life-Cycle-Assessment method [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Commissioned by the Ministry of Environment of Hamburg, Germany, an environmental impact assessment using the Life-Cycle Assessment (LCA) method was carried out during 1995 and 1996. In a scenario, the effect of a complete transition from conventional to

The importance of collaboration, interdisciplinarity, and transdisciplinarity in grassland research

open access: yesGrassland Research
Grasslands are among the most biodiverse and ecologically important ecosystems, and yet, they are increasingly threatened by land‐use intensification and biodiversity loss.

Key soil health indicators under humid grazing lands

open access: yesGrassland Research, EarlyView.
Soil health can be described using a few key soil health indicators that target a diversity of soil functions. This perspective article highlights how forage management affects these soil health indicators in humid‐zone grazing lands. Abstract Background Soil health describes critical soil functions influenced by land management. Although some key soil

Genome‐wide identification of MsAlkB family genes and functional analysis of MsALKBH2 as an RNA m6A eraser in alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) subject to drought stress

open access: yesGrassland Research
Background N6‐methyladenosine (m6A), the most prevalent mRNA modification in plants, plays a pivotal role in developmental processes and stress responses.

Human appreciation of flower colours as cultural ecosystem service in grasslands: A methodological approach

open access: yesGrassland Research, EarlyView.
This literature‐based method estimates human appreciation of flower colours on target grasslands. Step 1: search literature sources (floristic surveys, national floras, web datasets and preference studies). Step 2: flower trait extraction (flower colour and area, flowering period and human colour appreciation scale).

Breeding bird response to adaptive multi‐paddock and continuous grazing practices in Southeastern United States

open access: yesEcosphere
Grassland bird populations are declining steeply, reflecting the degradation and loss of native grassland habitats. To assess how grazing management affects declining grassland bird populations, we compared breeding avifaunal communities in adaptive ...
