Fish carcass deposition to suppress invasive lake trout through hypoxia causes limited, non‐target effects on benthic invertebrates in Yellowstone Lake

open access: yesAquaculture, Fish and Fisheries, Volume 2, Issue 6, Page 470-483, December 2022., 2022
In Yellowstone Lake, Wyoming, lake trout carcasses are used to suppress invasive lake trout embryos in an effort to conserve native Yellowstone cutthroat trout. Using a field experiment, we determined that carcass treatment had limited, non‐target effects on benthic invertebrates.

Ion−π interactions for constructing organic luminescent materials

open access: yesAggregate, Volume 3, Issue 6, December 2022., 2022
The construction of organic fluorescence and room temperature phosphorescence materials by using ion−π interactions including anion−π interactions and cation−π interactions is presented in this minireview. The applications of these ion−π type organic luminescent materials in bioimaging, imaging‐guided anticancer, and antibacterial treatment are also ...

Testing for personality consistency across naturally occurring behavioral contexts in sanctuary chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes)

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Primatology, Volume 85, Issue 1, January 2023., 2023
Sanctuary chimpanzees show consistency of their personality‐based behaviors across real‐life contexts and over time while displaying interindividual differences in the consistency of their personality‐based behavioral profile Abstract Personality is both a reflection of the bio‐behavioral profile of individuals and a summary of how they typically ...

A rare case of giant panda cancer: Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, Volume 5, Issue 6, Page 582-586, December 2022., 2022
Pancreatic tissues' tumors exhibited three different situations. (A) Several glandular tubular adenocarcinoma structures could be seen in pancreatic tissue. (B) Tubular area could be seen in the pancreas, exhibiting papillary growth in the area.

Fungal Pathogens in Grasslands [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology, 2021
Grasslands are major primary producers and function as major components of important watersheds. Although a concise definition of grasslands cannot be given using a physiognomic or structural approach, grasslands can be described as vegetation communities experiencing periodical droughts and with canopies dominated by grasses and grass-like plants ...

How profitable is switchgrass in Illinois, USA? An economic definition of marginal land

open access: yesGrassland Research, 2022
Background Decisions regarding the conversion of land from an existing crop to bioenergy crops are critical for the sustainable production of both food and fuels. This study seeks to establish criteria for delineating land as “economically marginal”, and

Climate and anthropogenic drivers of changes in abundance of C4 annuals and perennials in grasslands on the Mongolian Plateau

open access: yesGrassland Research, 2022
Background C4 plants have increased substantially during the past several decades in the grasslands of the Mongolian Plateau due to regional warming. Here, we explore how the patterns of abundances of C4 annuals and C4 perennials change over space and ...

Use, calibration and verification of agroecological models for boreal environments: A review

open access: yesGrassland Research, 2022
Past assessments report negative impacts of the climate crisis in boreal areas; but milder and shorter winters and elevated atmospheric CO2 may provide opportunities for agricultural productivity potentially playing a significant role in future food ...

Removing subordinate species in a biodiversity experiment to mimic observational field studies

open access: yesGrassland Research, 2022
Background Positive effects of plant species richness on community biomass in biodiversity experiments are often stronger than those from observational field studies.

Similarities and differences in the sensitivity of Soil Organic Matter (SOM) dynamics to biogeochemical parameters for different vegetation inputs and climates [PDF]

open access: yesStochastic Environmental Research and Risk Assessment, 34 (12), 2229-2244 (2020), 2022
The biogeochemical complexity of environmental models is increasing continuously and model reliability must be reanalysed when new implementations are brought about. This work aim to identify influential biogeochemical parameters that control the Soil Organic Matter (SOM) dynamics and greenhouse gas emissions in different ecosystems and climates ...
