DeepVerge: Classification of Roadside Verge Biodiversity and Conservation Potential [PDF]
Open space grassland is being increasingly farmed or built upon, leading to a ramping up of conservation efforts targeting roadside verges. Approximately half of all UK grassland species can be found along the country's 500,000 km of roads, with some 91 species either threatened or near threatened.

Topographic thresholds for gully head formation in badlands
Gully topographic threshold model was extended to badlands, on the basis of data collected in the Mediterranean environment in Italy and Spain, characterized by diversified climatic, lithological, geological and anthropogenic settings. Criteria for the attribution of curve number values has been more objectively defined in order to reduce arbitrariness

Unifying deterministic and stochastic ecological dynamics via a landscape-flux approach [PDF]
We develop a landscape-flux framework to investigate observed frequency distributions of vegetation and the stability of these ecological systems under fluctuations. The frequency distributions can characterize the population-potential landscape related to the stability of ecological states.

Abstract Animal welfare programs alone are insufficient to ensure better welfare for farm animals. Effective farm management, driven by dairy farmers' intrinsic motivation, plays a pivotal role. This study examines the factors influencing dairy farmers' intention to implement animal welfare practices and their commitment to continuously enhancing ...

Stability and purity of selected ryegrass Epichloë endophytes in New Zealand dairy pastures
Background Perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne) in New Zealand pastures is typically infected with the mutualist Epichloë fungal endophyte. This endophyte assists the plant in resisting biotic and abiotic stresses, but the standard strain of endophyte is ...

Background Genotype × environment interaction (GEI) slows genetic gains and complicates selection decisions in plant breeding programs. Forage breeding program seed sales often encompass large geographic regions to which the cultivars may not be adapted.

Swedish farmers' approval of nudges
Abstract Interest in the use of behavioral policy approaches, such as nudges, has strongly increased over the past years, including in the domains of food, agricultural and environmental policies. While the approval of nudges among the general public has been studied extensively, we know little about the attitude of farmers toward nudging. Farmers may (

Abstract The effects of the Younger Dryas (YD) fluctuation on Late Pleistocene hunter‐gatherers' settlement and subsistence systems in the southern Alps are poorly known. This is primarily due to the scarcity of archaeological sites dating from the YD, in contrast with the extensive evidence available from the lateglacial interstadial and the early ...

Emergent structure and dynamics of tropical forest-grassland landscapes [PDF]
Previous work indicates that tropical forest can exist as an alternative stable state to savanna. Therefore, perturbation by climate change or human impact may lead to crossing of a tipping point beyond which there is rapid forest dieback that is not easily reversed.

Abstract This study explores the rent price ratio in agricultural land markets, crucial for evaluating market efficiency, policy needs, and farmer decision‐making. Traditionally, the analyses faced challenges due to the absence of concurrent sale and rent data for the same land, potentially leading to biased results.
